Assistant Chef
We are a successful and growing British restaurant brand (Muslim friendly) with 3 outlets in Klang Valley. We are looking to hire an experienced Assistant Chef at our Subang Jaya outlet. From time to time - you be expected to work at our other outlets at Damansara Uptown and Desa Sri Hartamas.
Applicants must have at least 1 year Assistant Chef experience.
We are looking for candidates to lead teams well, in order to achieve excellent and consistent kitchen service operations. You must be able to motivate staff to get the best out of them and be passionate about training and developing talent. You will be expected to maintain staff discipline and ensure they follow our SOP's and instructions at all times, to ensure excellent food quality and to manage costs effectively.
You must be able to effectively manage kitchen operations (i.e. ordering, storage, leading dinner service, waste management, completing SOPs), have a positive attitude, be organised, and punctual.
Your role will be to to assist your outlet chef to ensure excellent and consistent food production and service operations. You are required to ensure dishes are consistently cooked to high standards, complete daily kitchen checklists and SOPs, train team members on recipes, manage staff attendance/performance and organised food production and ordering in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Note: Only serious candidates should apply - as there is a tough 3 month probation period, with weekly tasks set (from your first day) and operational KPIs to achieve.
Assistant Chef duties include:
To assist outlet chef daily duty
Managing kitchen operations to ensure food is stored, prepared and cooked to the highest quality and hygiene standards
Ensuring food production and plating follows SOP requirements
Preparing, cooking and plating food to consistently high standards
Keeping a clean and tidy kitchen at all times
Cooking fresh-to-order dishes during service
Preparing, cooking and plating food to high standards
Assisting the team to maintain food quality, minimise food waste and manage cost control
Following standardised recipes and procedures
Completing other tasks and duties, as necessary by management
Applicant Requirements:
At least 3 year experience of working in kitchens cooking western cuisine and seafood, ideally in hotels or restaurant chains
It is desirable for candidates to have at least 2 year's experience of leading and managing teams, including training teams in cooking methods and SOP practices
Knowledge of western cuisine and experienced at cooking seafood
Highly skilled in preparing, cooking and garnishing western food dishes
Understands food costing and stock control
Experienced at developing and following operational SOPs
Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively with both upper management and lower-level employees
Passionate about cooking and producing the best possible dishes, every time
Able to meet targets and effectively manage quality control and wastage
Considerable knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen management principles
Highly organised and able to multitask effectively
Interested in taking additional responsibilities to further their career and 'going the extra mile' to get the job done
Willing to work hard and is honest and professional at all times
It is desirable for candidates to have a Diploma or Degree in Culinary Skills/Arts, or equivalent professional qualifications
Good command of MS Office IT programmes would be advantageous
Ability to converse in English and Bahasa Melayu
Able and happy to work 6 days per week (Monday off day)
Willingness to go the extra mile to get the job completed to high standards, (i.e. working longer hours, weekends and public holidays)
