Job Description

Job Purpose

Based in our headquarters in Ara Damansara, the role is to work closely with Business Units ("BU") and other functional/support departments in Sime Darby Property ("SD Prop") in delivering strategic planning and advisory, business performance monitoring and program management support on high-impact growth / investment opportunities and operational / financial excellence to ensure alignment of corporate strategy with BU-level strategy and operating plans

Job Responsibilities

The Corporate Planning Manager/Assistant Manager is a key role in supporting SD Prop to deliver its short to long term goals in arriving to our future end state of becoming Malaysia's leading and most admired real estate company. Key responsibilities of the role would include:

Group-wide Planning & Strategy

  • Formulation of corporate strategy and tactical plans inclusive of effective cascading to drive alignment with businesses group-wide
  • Manage and coordinate activities for the yearly strategic business planning cycle group-wide, inclusive of scenario planning and stress testing to ensure feasibility and viability of corporate plans. An ability to carry out financial modelling in forecasting the organisation's future financial performance is preferred
  • Recognise pertinent issues and red flags to ensure achievement of strategic and financial targets through monitoring, tracking, and reporting performance of BUs, subsidiaries, JVs, associates, and other partnerships
  • Manage the review and drafting of cadence reports and strategic presentations/papers/communications such as Group Management Committee reports, Group Managing Director reports, Group Investment Committee papers, Corporate Direction / Strategy presentations, Special Committee reports, Board of Directors reports (quarterly) and SD Prop Annual Report
Performance Management
  • Deploy and cascade balanced scorecards / KPIs in line with SD Prop's objectives and strategies to measure performance through suitable operational parameters / performance indicators
  • Recommend refinements to the organisation's Corporate Scorecard framework for continuous improvement and manage periodic monitoring, compiling, and reporting of results
  • Monitor the milestones of group-wide initiatives through systematic information gathering and analysing data and information in facilitating knowledge sharing and best practice visibility group-wide. Knowledge and experience in the Property Development and/or Investment & Asset Management industry will be seen as an advantage.
Programme Management
  • Assist to devise and recommend short to medium term strategic and/or tactical plans to drive financial and operational performance through key insights from analysis on performance reports
  • Provide support to BU / Group-level strategic and transformational projects where needed
  • Ensure smooth running of events hosted by the Corporate Planning & Development team such as the Annual Management Dialogue, Management Retreat, Board Retreat, etc.
Research & Value Add
  • Synthesise, maintain and ideate for better organisation knowledge of best practices and corporate strategy/planning insights and trends to elevate department capabilities to value-add to SD Prop
  • Develop and implement methods for benchmarking and generate actionable insights from analysis of industry, competitors and comparable companies to improve corporate performance for SD Prop and its Business Units
  • Serve as an internal think tank when necessary to prepare various strategic papers / presentations / proposals for internal as well as external consumption and participate in other strategic cross-functional initiatives within SD Prop's group of companies in creating value for the company
People Development
  • Discuss and drive individual development plans of team members in mapping out career development ambitions and identify training needs for growth of technical and soft skills
  • Oversight and people management of team members under purview
Job Dimension (impact and accountabilities)
  • Supports business units and/or other support departments in strategic decision making, planning and problem solving
  • Jointly accountable with business units to deliver company's performance targets
What we look for
  • Preferably has experience in a property developer / property industry related consultancy
  • Candidates with junior to mid-level experience from top consulting firms (such as EY, BCG, KPMG, Bain, Accenture, etc.) would be of interest as well
To qualify for the role, you must have qualifications, knowledge, or skills as listed below:
  • Possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Real Estate, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent
  • Receipt of a professional certification in Real Estate, Accounting or Finance is an added advantage
  • Proven ability in dealing with ambiguous and strategic problems, proven ability in leading and motivating teams to deliver above expectations, proven capabilities in being both creative and methodical when problem solving in tackling complex topics
  • Passion in championing continuous learning and knowledge sharing is seen as an advantage
