We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Manager.
Why join us? The successful candidate will be responsible for completing BAU process of Tax Operation for Mandatory Corporate Actions events for both proprietary and SED businesses across entities. The role occupant is also responsible for processing the day to day events, ensuring controls are adhered to, and client queries are turned around quick.
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do:
  • Deal with the specific requirements for the various markets assigned and to look into effective ways to standardize certain practices across markets.
  • Keep abreast with the latest development in the rules and regulations by the regulators of the various markets and to identify the implications to the business
  • Drive customer centric Quality initiatives.
  • Effectively mitigate identified Operational Risks.
  • Comply with Group\xe2\x80\x99s statutory audit standards.
  • Attention to detail during every aspect of the event lifecycle is key. The department can become very busy during the peak times of the year and the ability to multi task is very important.
  • Hands on experience in Tax process for Mandatory Corporate Action within Global markets is a must
  • It would be beneficial for the candidate to have a wide knowledge of all aspects of Mandatory CA overall operational knowledge also.
  • Need to review the Service Level Definition regularly to ensure procedures are in accordance to SLD and market regulations.
  • Able to provide processing cover to other processes whenever required
  • Willing to work in any assigned working hours in accordance to business requirements
  • The role holder will need to maintain a strong working relationship with onshore partners.
  • The ability to think clearly and logically in a busy and deadline orientated environment is required in order to mitigate mistakes happening and losses being incurred. The candidate will need to work efficiently to prioritize work in order to manage financial, operational and reputational risk.
  • The candidate will also be required to be a strong and clear communicator on email, and also the telephone and in person. The ability to liaise with internal and external customers of varying levels is important in the Asset Services environment.
  • The candidate should have a proven track record from previous employment.
  • The candidate will be required to understand the risks associated with the corporate actions environment and contribute to the SOX requirements of the department. They must also ensure that the FIM requirements of HSBC are adhered to on a daily basis.
  • The role is regulated by the FCA and PRA.
  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term \xe2\x80\x98compliance\xe2\x80\x99 embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.
  • FCA and PRA rules will need to be adhered to.
  • The roles of the corporate actions processors are ever evolving with market changes and growth playing a big part in how the business is controlled and takes shape. HSBC GBM has a lot of equity finance borrow and loan positions as its main business driver, along with increasing activity from all other areas of the business including the Emerging Market business.

Requirements
What you will need to succeed in the role:
  • A post-graduate diploma or degree in any discipline and equivalent practical experience / maturity.
  • Extensive experience in Global Market Operations, majorly in Tax processing on various markets especially UK, Europe and Asia
  • Knowledge of TLM/ASPA/GPS/SYN/Easyway/Merit systems will be an added advantage
  • Specific market knowledge of the role advertised is beneficial
  • Strong understanding of risk and risk management in Tax Processing within Market Ops
  • Excellent knowledge of Mandatory CA event types, market understanding of Tax practices/rates, Reclaims, FATCA and 871M will be an added advantage
  • Practical and working knowledge of operations functions is preferred.
  • Attention to detail along with speed and accuracy are important, along with the ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to speak and understand English fluently, write business letters and reports, and have good conversational / telephone skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, transfer knowledge appropriately, understand and interpret numeric data. Evidence of good analytical, statistical and data mining skills to study trends and make projections. Production management skills and ability to initiate process improvements.
