We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Vice President.

The Role

The incumbent for this role, as part of the Offshore Credit Analysis Unit, will be responsible for managing a team based in KL. The key activities of this team include: * Daily production activities covering client on-boarding, excess management, and operational reporting, and

  • Credit analysis to support the annual reviews, new money requests, limit amendments and the corresponding operational support as part of the credit application process.
This role also entails continuous support to the Head of Offshore CAU Funds and the Global Head of CAU Funds in all tactical and strategic initiatives.

The Opportunity

The role holder will oversee the operational and credit analysis support for HSS and GBM funds spanning Global Custody Accounts, Traditional Funds, Alternative Funds and Hedge Funds.

Impact on Business
  • Engage Business and Risk Stakeholders effectively. Drive positive perception on service quality among stakeholder group across all regions that CAU services.
  • Ensure BAU Services are run smoothly, with low/no escalations. Carry out workflow allocation and resourcing planning (right staffing, right utilization) & ensure timely recruitment of team members (backfill/growth).
  • Ensure key BAU metrics like PLAs, overdues, monthly onboarding targets and reporting timelines are met consistently.
  • Establish and drive rigor around the excess management process and ensure standardization across sites. Ensure that MI for excess is transparent and there are timely escalations of issues.
  • Issues / potential problems are to be professionally and promptly handled & escalated to the Offshore & Global Heads of CAU Funds for assistance or guidance towards reaching a quick and positive resolution.
Customers /Stakeholders
  • Collaborate with various teams within WCS & wider GBM functions in ensuring that overall business objectives are effectively met.
  • Organize and conduct periodic discussions with stakeholders (CAU Regional Heads, Risk & Relationship Management teams).
  • Ensure adequate governance and discipline around the Primary and Secondary control framework submissions (including excesses).
  • Represent CAU Offshore and provide technical inputs for all projects and technology changes. Drive projects to their logical conclusion through proper allocation of time & resources and within the scheduled commitment.
  • Play a key role in driving streamlining, automation & standardization initiatives across various geographies.
  • Manage key strategic projects. Ensure that processes, procedures, systems, policies & FTE requirements are well documented & critically evaluated periodically.
Will also be required to:
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct and be a role model for the team.
  • Coach and mentor team members, so that they achieve their full potential. Identify appropriate training programs & development needs for team members.
  • Ensure on time completion of semiannual & and full Year performance reviews, well supported by feedback from key stakeholders and peers.
  • Ensure and sustain high levels of engagement and participation by the team in CAU, WCS, GSC and CSR activities.
  • Retain and groom top performers, manage attrition effectively.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant policies and procedures issued by the Group
  • Communicate clearly with team members and other parts of Global Banking & Markets as required
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with issues raised by external regulators.
  • Be flexible to support business hours.
  • Implement the Group Compliance Policy, as applicable to their role
  • Be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with their role, and to ensure that all actions during their employment with HSBC take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

Education/Knowledge
  • Master's in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent is essential
Experience/Skills
  • At least 3-5 years' experience in management position with exposure to appraisals, counseling, team building and staff development.
  • Experience in a processing environment.
Skills
  • Robust leadership and people management capability evidenced by successful management of large teams in previous role/s.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Asset Management sector with particular focus on Hedge Funds & Custody businesses.
  • Thorough understanding of end-to-end credit processes, policies, systems and corporate banking products.
  • Knowledge of Cash Management, Trade Settlement, Cash Payment, FX and Investigations are essential.
  • Excellent stakeholder management capabilities evidenced by management of global function/s in previous role/s.
  • Atleast eight years of work experience of which six years of relevant work experience in Credit Risk, Asset Management, Hedge Funds, Custody Operations.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in process streamlining, automation in previous role/s.
Candidate with less relevant experience or skills may be offered a lower Global Career Band than stated above.
