Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our department as Assistant Vice President Traded Risk.

Principal responsibilities

As a member of the Traded and Treasury Risk team (TTRM), this is a role responsible for supporting and controlling Markets and Securities Services (MSS) and Markets Treasury business of HSBC Malaysia. The job involves a diverse range of market risk and traded credit risk management responsibilities, including independent risk monitoring, identifying and escalating issues to the 1st and 2nd Line stakeholders, liaison with the Regional ASP TTRM team, implementation of risk management policies and procedures, assisting with the roll out of new risk systems, promotion of an appropriate risk governance and compliance culture in line with HSBC Group objectives.

  • Perform the traded risk management function for risk assessment, capturing and monitoring key risk exposures completely, correctly and timely.
  • Avoid out-sized loss and protect business from traded risk exposures which are mis-represented or inappropriate to prevailing market conditions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise support and challenge on new businesses and MSS and Markets Treasury issues or concerns.
  • Provide Second Line of Defense review and challenge on all traded risk matters.
  • Collaborate with local and regional teams across functions and business units to support the overall business strategy.
  • Take ownership to resolve issues and promptly escalate significant issues or material position changes to senior management.
  • Lead traded risk effort in risk or business projects.
  • Support TTRM to develop appropriate traded risk appetite limits, controls and risk management frameworks.
  • Support the Regional Traded Risk Assurance function for Regulatory Risk which includes controls design and effectiveness testing on Traded Risk activities related to Regulatory Reporting and covering both Financial and non-Financial Risk processes.
Requirements
  • University degree in mathematics, risk management, actuarial, quantitative finance or related fields.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in traded risk management and/or global markets business.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills, ability to influence partners within the Business and regional functions.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
  • Great sense of ownership and servicing mindset to ensure efficient and effective customer service processes.
