Job Description

The AVL Engineer is responsible for the

design, coordination, and technical review

of Audio, Video and Lighting systems for building projects. This includes preparing system designs, drawings and specifications, ensuring solutions meet performance standards, client requirements and integration with the wider M&E services (electrical, ICT, ELV, architectural).

This role works closely with project managers, architects, interior designers and other M&E disciplines to deliver fully coordinated AVL systems from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities

Design

audio, video, control, and architectural lighting systems

for commercial, hospitality, mixed-use and institutional buildings. Select appropriate lighting fixtures, AV equipment, control processors, dimming systems, speakers, microphones, projectors, LED walls, etc. Develop

concept designs

, schematics, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams and layouts. Perform calculations for

lighting levels

, acoustic coverage and AV system performance (SPL, lux levels, dispersion, etc.). Integrate AVL systems with other building services (power, ELV, ICT, BMS). Prepare tender documents, technical specifications and bills of quantities (BOQ). Review shop drawings, method statements and material submissions from contractors. Ensure AVL designs comply with local building codes and industry standards (CIBSE, IES, AVIXA/InfoComm). Attend design coordination meetings with clients, architects and M&E consultants. Collaborate with suppliers/manufacturers to evaluate solutions and obtain technical data. Work with electrical teams to coordinate power loads, cabling routes and control systems. Conduct site inspections to verify installation quality and compliance with design documents. Witness testing & commissioning (T&C) of AV, lighting and control systems. Provide troubleshooting guidance to contractors to resolve technical issues. Ensure all AVL designs meet performance, reliability and sustainability targets.

Requirements

Degree or Diploma in

Electrical Engineering

Electronics

Audio Engineering

Lighting Engineering

, or related field. More than 4 years experience in

AVL system design

, preferably within an M&E consultancy or specialist ELV firm. Experience in building projects such as hotels, malls, offices, auditoriums or convention centers. Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit/BIM is an advantage.

Pay: RM7,000.00 - RM15,000.00 per month
