Key responsibilities

Beverage preparation:

Preparing and serving a variety of hot and cold coffee and tea beverages, which includes grinding beans, operating espresso machines, and steaming and pouring milk.

Customer service:

Taking orders, handling cash and credit card transactions, and ensuring customers have a positive and welcoming experience.

Workspace maintenance:

Keeping the work area, equipment, and utensils clean and sanitary. They are also responsible for restocking supplies.

Menu knowledge:

Understanding the menu, explaining items to customers, and promoting special or seasonal beverages.

Operational support:

Assisting with opening or closing procedures, managing rush hours, and sometimes training new employees.
Skills and qualifications

Customer service:

A friendly, outgoing, and welcoming demeanor is crucial for customer interaction.

Technical skills:

Ability to operate coffee-making equipment and a willingness to learn different preparation methods.

Adaptability:

Being able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to dynamic situations.

Attention to detail:

Ensuring drinks are made to specification and the workspace is kept clean.

Experience:

Previous experience in food service is beneficial but not always required, as many employers provide on-the-job training.

Food safety:

A Food Handling Certificate may be required in some locations, especially if food is served.
