Position Summary

The main purpose of a Business Unit Controller, would be to act as co-pilot to the Business Executive Officer: drive the business by providing insightful financial analysis and strongly supporting a fact based decision making process based on current business environment & specialist financial knowledge; monitor and ensure Business Unit strategy and performance are aligned with market and SBU objectives; drive the Business Planning and Forecasting processes, and ensure compliance with F&C guidelines..

A day in the life of a Business Unit Controller

  • As part of the MBS process, proactively influence/facilitate strategy formulation and communication. Evaluate and formalize strategies through financial modeling.
  • Drive the Monthly Business Planning Process - providing transparency and direction towards target achievement and ensure discipline and compliance to the process.
  • Ensure quality financial information is used by the business for decision making and that potential risks and opportunities are anticipated and understood. Promote use of external & internal information for benchmarking.
  • Review monthly performance and identify areas of risk / opportunity to achievement of targets and forecasts. Develop / follow-up on action plans. Support ATNWC reduction (where relevant) and monitor its components.
  • Analyze and challenge Procurement, Supply Chain and Factory performance based on key indicators (variances, level of fixed cost, etc.) and promote the culture of Return on Invested Capital / ATR on CAPEX related topics (whenever relevant).
  • Support Business Innovation and Renovation pipeline by providing the right level of financial analysis and leadership.
  • Analyze and challenge product portfolio to identify the best pricing structure, prioritize resource allocation, maximize the return on investment from TTS/PFME/CAPEX, eliminate Value Destroyers and perform ROIC and cost optimization analysis on the business.
  • Support ad hoc projects: Manufacturing/Sourcing strategies, Restructuring, M&A. Identify opportunities for improvement in the Business and drive their execution.
  • Play an active role in people development and succession planning. Ensure a solid understanding of the value creation framework among the non-finance experts.
  • To act as Compliance Champion for the business: identify all the documents in the Compliance Matrix relevant to the business, create compliance awareness and determine ownership of such documents within the business and to update the Legal & Compliance Counsel of any new relevant compliance document to be included in the Compliance Matrix.
What will make you successful
  • Having filled one or several career steps in F&C, where she/he held responsibility over a team (MANCOM exposure a plus)
  • Prior experience in Accounting / Finance function (e.g. Sales, Factory or Supply Chain Controller)
  • More than 8 years of relevant experience, preferably from a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry experience
  • Experience within a network organization (internal and external providers)
  • Degree in Business/Finance and/or Accountancy Qualification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, ICEAW) would be preferred,
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop people.
