The Chief Engineer manages the maintenance and repair of the hotel buildings, grounds and contents in a cost-effective manner, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of all plant and equipment in line with Hilton and hotel policies and procedures.

What will I be doing?

As the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

• Direct all engineering operation, maintenance and all mechanical and electrical works of the hotel.
• Plans, schedules and supervises the activities of the Engineering Department personnel.
• Keeps files on all machinery with operating manuals, warranty cards, maintenance schedules and any other printed materials.
• Keeps stock of major spare parts, establishes par levels and monthly inventory.
• Inspects and surveys the entire building continuously to determine the work required for maintenance improvements or up-grading under the direction of hotel management.
• Interviews, selects and trains new employees to maintain the work force of the department.
• Handles job orders promptly for the installations, repairs and maintenance of all operating equipment as raised by the respective departments.
• Establishes a preventive maintenance program and routine servicing program for all equipment and installations in operation.
• Establishes a maintenance request system (work orders) to assign work, monitor progress and ensure quality control.
• Control cost of labours, supplies and equipment in order to maximize on the utilization of resources.
• Research new products, recommends to management cost saving (energy, water, gas etc) and safety measures.
• Establish fire and evacuation procedures together with the Chief Safety & Security and ensures that all personnel involved in the fire evacuation fighting team are continuously updated and reminded of the procedures.
• To prevent breakdown, to maintain and extend the life of machinery and materials to maximize the lifespan of all equipment.
• Upkeep of proper maintenance in terms of the general attractiveness and atmosphere of the hotel. Painting jobs is important for both the protective and decorative senses.
• Should work be done by an outside contractor, three quotations for the job with proper work scopes should be attached with the purchase requisition form to be submitted for approval.
• Checks and communicates with all the various section heads regarding their engineering and maintenance requirements as and when required.
• Submit layout and plans for outside decorations to the authority whenever necessary.
• Maintain a close working relationship with all departments especially Front Office, Housekeeping and Food & Beverage.
• Inspects outside the contractor\xe2\x80\x99s work in the building to ensure that all jobs are done satisfactorily before approving.
• Schedules the Engineering internal meetings.
• Work out detailed budget as and when required by the operations, including major renovation works.
• Responsible for all the system undertaken by Engineering Department.

• At least 10 years of experience in hotel / building services or other appropriate engineering fields.
• At least 3 years in a Chief Engineer position or 5 years in an Assistant Chief Engineer position in a 5-star hotel.
• Have specialized knowledge on water treatment, hydraulics, mechanics, chillers, air flows, H.V.A.C., L.V., electronics, sound, TV, lighting, elevators, boilers, pumps, etc.
• Capable of maintenance for all hotel building services including air-conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, electrical installation, lighting system, plumbing system, boiler, laundry, kitchen, lift, fire protection, escalator, sound system, TV system, etc.
• Possess knowledge of the requirements of government regulations and technical rules.
• Proficient in English to meet business needs.
• Capable of following specifications for hotel services.
• Possess knowledge of energy conservation.
• Capable of training Engineering Team Members.
