ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Overview/Scope:

PSA BDP Trade Management is currently in the process of expanding its business presence in Asia, and an exciting opportunity has emerged within our EPICenter located in Malaysia. We are actively seeking individuals to join our team in the role of Classification Specialist. In this capacity, the selected candidates will be tasked with performing HTS code classification responsibilities, making use of the PSA BDP SMART Classify digital tool. The individual who assumes this role will play a pivotal part in guaranteeing the precise and compliant classification of products, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of our trade operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Accurately classify products according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Codes.
• Collaborate with relevant departments (internal and external parties) to ensure the accuracy of information.
• Conduct research on new products to determine appropriate HTS codes.
• Analyze and resolve classification discrepancies, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders on classification matters.

Job Requirements

Desired Abilities and Capabilities:

• Basic Knowledge of HTS Classification. Understanding of HTS Codes and its application in international trade.
• Attention to Detail. Ability to meticulously review product specifications and documentation to ensure accurate classification.
• Analytical Skills. Ability to analyze product structures and determine appropriate HTS codes.
• Effective Communication. Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly and concisely.
• Collaboration. Willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Learning Agility. Eagerness to learn and develop expertise through on-the-job experience and training.

Qualifications:

• Educational qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., International Business, Trade, Logistics).
• Minimal 2-3 years of experience, with exposure to HTS code classification in chemicals and industrial machinery being an advantage.
• Former experience in trade compliance is required.
• Familiarity with trade regulations and customs documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English. Additional languages spoken and written is a plus.
