Job Description

A commis chef is an entry-level junior chef who assists senior chefs in a professional kitchen. Their duties include preparing ingredients, cooking menu items, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring kitchen efficiency and safety. This role is often a starting point for a culinary career, providing hands-on experience and training. Key responsibilities

Food preparation:

Slicing vegetables, marinating meats, and preparing other ingredients for cooking.

Cooking support:

Assisting with cooking tasks like grilling, sauteing, and steaming as directed by senior chefs.

Station management:

Setting up and maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workstation (mise en place).

Hygiene and safety:

Adhering to all food safety standards and hygiene practices, and keeping the kitchen clean and sanitized.

Stock rotation:

Rotating stock to minimize waste and ensure ingredients are fresh.

Skill development:

Learning from senior chefs and gaining experience in various kitchen stations, such as hot, cold, or pastry.
