Communications Manager (1 Year Contract)

Job Description



Job Purpose :
With minimal supervision, develops and implements strategic communication plans and projects which support the business in order to contribute to the execution of the Group Communication content strategy for both internal and external audiences across all channels including paid, earned, shared and owned media.


Key Accountabilities :

  • Support and contribute to the development and implementation of integrated communication plans and programs in support of business strategy.
  • Provide communication support for strategic priorities and business projects in line with communication standards, processes and governance.
  • Ensure all communication activities and messages support business objectives.
  • With limited supervision develops and takes ownership of integrated plans contributing to wider projects supporting business objectives.



Essential job functions might be based on different areas/specialties:
Integrated communication (topic owner and content producer):
  • Recommend, develop and deliver high quality strategic and tactical communication solutions understanding the audience and identifying the appropriate vehicle and format for communication.
  • Effectively manages business and communication-related compliance and regulation.
  • Thinks strategically, plans creatively and delivers consistently a range of communication materials to support the business area on all channels (PESO).
  • Oversees the maintenance of up-to-date and relevant information in all communication channels including online and print.
  • Build and manage relationships and support strategic business partnering for communications solution.
  • Diagnoses and develops recommendations to solve business unit/customer communication issues.
  • Ensure measurement and reporting on all actives and activations and support tracking on all channels.



Media relations add-ons specific add-ons :
  • Plan, develop and implement media relations programs for business areas in collaboration with key business stakeholders
  • Primary public relations/media relations support for customer service and services in all Business Units and Support Units and for any related programs or events.
  • Supervise and/or drafting/updating Zurich issues\xc2\xb4 statements.
  • Help identify and pursue speaking opportunities for Zurich spokespersons.
  • Ensuring message continuity by reviewing all releases, by line articles, presentations, etc. developed anywhere within Zurich.
  • Help coordinate the activities of outside public relations/media relations counsel.



Corporate Publishing Specific Add-Ons:
  • Plan and manage schedules for all Corporate Publishing\xe2\x80\x99s projects, working with all parties involved to ensure timely delivery.
  • Lead the design, layout, photography, graphics and production aspects of Corporate Publishing\xe2\x80\x99s projects, working closely with internal contributors and external agencies.
  • Fully understand Zurich\xe2\x80\x99s brand identity guidelines and intellectual property rights in connection with visual assets.
  • Source engaging photographs from specialist photographers and stock libraries, and help to maintain Zurich\xe2\x80\x99s photographic databases in collaboration with the Brand Marketing team.
  • Contribute to the creation of videos by colleagues in Group Marketing & Communications.



Additional Job Functions :
  • Manage translation requests ensuring that all the language requirements are met.
  • Manage relationships and costs with outside suppliers, ensuring that the proper skills, resources and technology are employed to provide top-quality service for the best possible cost.
  • Identify new trends in the language services, communicate the relevant information to management, and ensure the development of and the access to skills and expertise to meet the needs and requirements of the Business Unit/area.
  • Provide with an evolving core of expertise in language services, particularly in terms of maintaining an in-depth knowledge insurance terminology. This includes providing quality control for translated material and updating knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry in general.
  • Make strategic recommendations to the Business Unit/area. These recommendations can serve to enhance the consistency of branding and communications
  • Handle interviewing, writing, proofreading and editing.
  • Educate team members and business partners on area of technical expertise.
  • Understand and research the market.
  • Actively pursues opportunities for industry networking, continues development and learning.



Business Accountabilities :
  • Lead and/or effectively manage the implementation of communications project plans to ensure that planned communications fits with the overall strategy.
  • Give communications support as required in an environment of greater complexity to ensure successful delivery of integrated messages.
  • Lead/ contribute to the development of new creative communications and explore options for using new channels and tools to engage target audiences where appropriate for the business.
  • Deliver communications and consultancy/business partnering support in line with the organization\xc2\xb4s strategic priorities to ensure that audiences receive the support they need to achieve the organization\xc2\xb4s business objectives.
  • Help develop and support stakeholder relationships to identify key requirements and ensure communications activities support delivery of business objectives.
  • Produce timely, high quality and cost-effective key deliverables e.g. Intranet articles, events communications, leadership messages to support the communication\xc2\xb4s process.
  • Support others in ensuring all external communications activities and messages (e.g. Press releases, briefing papers etc.) support business objectives.
  • Generate measurable results from communication activity in helping achieve business objectives and contributes to strategic and innovative thinking and ideas, working with partners and team colleagues to improve communication, return on investment and impact.
  • Monitor business processes in order to identify and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrate the ability to translate business need into clear plans for delivery
  • Support communications coaching to business leaders to ensure successful delivery of integrated messages.
  • Support coaching and strategic communications advice to business stakeholders to ensure delivery of integrated messages across the organization.



Performance Management Accountabilities :
  • Model behaviors that demonstrate commitment to corporate values.
  • Provide input into performance management discussions of project team members.
  • Coach and provide technical advice and counsel within and outside operating unit.
  • Provide guidance and support for team members.
  • Take action to manage own personal development and encourage others to do the same.



Job Requirements :
  • Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in communications, journalism, Marketing, PR or related field and 7 or more years of experience in related field
