About the role

Reporting to the Head of Product Programmes, the Design Lead will support the Category in its ambition to deliver new projects to the business. This will involve being responsible for developing and delivering lower complexity NPD projects and supporting with delivery of the higher complexity NPD projects. A strong collaborator and influencer throughout the global cross team and wider business, the Design Lead is pivotal in inspiring, energising and managing the global development and execution of projects across RDD, Operations and Commercial to extremely challenging timelines. Some of your tasks could include:

Deliver product design and assemblies to production on time, cost and to specification (functionality, reliability, safety & performance) helping the business accomplish its goals.

Lead, challenge and develop Dyson engineering standards and involved in technical expertise initiatives.

To work on high-risk engineering problems, de-risking them with good design considerations and documentation.

Lead others to achieve common goals as part of a team.

Regularly lead and contribute in design and technical reviews with technical Leads, Engineering Managers and Head of department.

Develop detailed specifications and design requirements for interdependent systems.

Identify and design test requirements to replicate anticipated usage and optimise products to be robust and high performing. Develop strategies to gather the required data for target setting.

Manage the building of functional prototype products suitable for testing, review, and demonstration.

Perform and review analysis on test failures and develop efficient solutions.

Collaborate and communicate with other functional Leads, System Owners and Global Operation Team to ensure effective and timely inputs

Supports activities that define the future of the EC category, using a foundation of technical understanding to assess potential opportunities and present them for review with senior category management.

Setting the goals against Dyson and EC blueprints. Plan, managing, delivering and measure the progress and result against the goals.

About you

At least a Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical or Mechatronics).

More than 5 years of experience in design and product development with good track record, working on complex and challenging technical problems with DFM, DFA considerations.

Ability to analyse processes and information, identify problems and trends, and develop efficient process and strategies.

Able to lead a project team or work as an excellent individual contributor, delivering product to production meeting time, cost, and specification.

Self-driven and independent with the ability to plan & prioritize tasks according to business need.

Practical knowledge of 3D CAD and 2D drawings.

Strong practical and methodical approach to design using an iterative development cycle of prototyping, testing, and analysing of data/results.

Creative and considered approach to problem solving, following clear design processes.

Skills to communicate your ideas to others within your team and across a business.

Passion in engineering with desire to constantly improve.

Knowledgeable and understanding of a broad range of engineering and technological disciplines such as flow, thermals, acoustic and electronics will be an advantage.

Good understanding of a broad range of manufacturing techniques and standard industrial measurement methods.
