Job Description


JOB PURPOSE

The Director of Student Residences is responsible for overseeing the residential and community life on campus, provide leadership and strategic vision to the organization. They will bring operational, managerial and administrative procedures, reporting structures and operation controls to the company. The Director will effectively communicate and foster growth among the executive team and all employees. This is a vital leadership role that will drive results, spur growth and increase the overall efficiency of the student accommodation business.

The Director of Student Residences is responsible for ensuring that all programs and services of the accommodation units are aligned with, and supportive of, the Purpose, Core Values and strategic plans of the Taylor\'s Education Group (TEG). He/she will create and sustain a holistic learning environment of innovation and creativity where student residents are constantly challenged to learn beyond the classrooms, where Service Learning concepts which are unique to Taylor\'s Hostel Management (THM) are expounded in programs that allow participants to learn to serve the community and in serving, learn values which will enrich the Taylor\'s Graduate Capabilities (TGC).

KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide management to staff and leadership to the organization that aligns with the company\'s business plan and overall strategic vision.
  • Assist executive team members in creating, growing and building a world class, industry leading organization.
  • Drive company results from both an operational and financial perspective working closely with the CFO, President, VP and other key executive team members.
  • Partner with the CFO to achieve favourable financial results with respect to sales, profitability, cash flow, partnership , systems, reporting and controls.
  • Set challenging and realistic goals for growth, performance and profitability.
  • Create effective measurement tools to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports outlining the operational condition of the company.
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
  • Works with other c-level executives on budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation programs.
  • Work closely with senior management team to create, implement and roll out plans for operational processes, internal infrastructures, reporting systems and company policies all designed to foster growth, profitably and efficiencies within the company.
  • Motivate and encourage employees at all levels as one of the key leaders in the company including but not limited to professional staff, management level employees and executive leadership team members.
  • Supervise, coach and provide direction for residential life at all residences.
  • Ensures that the functions of staff members are well understood, aligned and integrated with TEG\'s Purpose and Core Values.
  • Provides support and guidance to the Student Resident Council (SRC) on policies and procedures and to represent the Management on the Council board.
  • Facilitate excellent pastoral care for all student residents within the halls of residence.
  • Direct the maximization of inventory revenue by the anticipation of Institutional market trends and intake shifts.
  • Ensure team\'s participation in appropriate Institutional local/regional marketing efforts.
  • Ensure that room inventory for all locations are well managed to achieve budgeted occupancy.
  • Advocate residents\' development through residential leadership opportunities including but not limited to external and learning communities. Oversee the annual set-up of the incoming new Student Resident Council (SRC).
  • Develop a familiarity with campus and community resources to ensure timely, efficient referrals when appropriate.
  • Respond to all escalated inquiries, problems, and complaints from students, staff, and parents related to the residences.
  • Make recommendations for the improvements in facilities, refurbishments, purchase of equipment, improvement of auxiliary services, preventative maintenance and safety measures for all residences.
  • Assume "on-call" responsibility for all residences during emergencies.
  • Develops good liaison relationships with other Institutional agencies
  • Collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support for student development programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE
  • Preferably a degree in Hospitality or Bachelor\'s degree in Business or related field
  • Management with previous work experience of at least 8 years in a senior position of a hotel or a residential facility of a college/university.
  • Exceptional executive presence, business acumen and presentation skills.
  • Budgeting and/or financial focused mindset
