JOB PURPOSE

The Early Years Assistant Teacher will be working under the guidance of the class teacher to support teaching and learning in the classroom.

The targeted start date for this EYC AT position is April 2023.

KEY RESULTS AREAS/ RESPONSIBILITIES

• To provide general support to the class teacher in the management and organization of the pupils and the classroom.
• To assist the teacher in creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment.
• To promote the inclusion of all pupils ensuring they have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
• To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.

JOB TASKS

• Non-contact time slots are used for administration tasks.
• Check with the class teacher at the end of each day if anything needs to be prepared for the next day.
• During contact time, support children with their learning employing a range of questioning techniques.
• When assigned a group/ station during contact time, be clear about the learning objective and support children in achieving the objective.
• Together with the class teacher, identify children who need extra support in specific areas. Plan and conduct booster sessions for these children.
• Support the class teacher with behavior management of children.
• Assist with organising home readers and class folders.
• Assist with daily soft-start and end-of-day arrangements.
• Ensure children\'s health, safety and wellbeing at all times.
• Be proactive in preparing resources and take initiative when supporting learning.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

MINIMUM ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION:

• Qualification in childhood education desired.

RELATED EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with children in an education setting preferred.
