Job Description

The Electrical Technician is responsible for performing electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and inspection of railway and locomotive electrical systems. This role supports both workshop-based and field service operations and ensures electrical reliability, safety compliance, and minimal downtime of rail assets.

Key Responsibilities

Perform electrical servicing, corrective repairs, and preventive maintenance. Repair and maintain wiring systems, lighting circuits, control panels, switchboards, relays, and connectors. Perform maintenance on traction motors, alternators, inverters, converters, and power systems. Support overhaul of electrical components such as batteries, charging systems, HVAC electrical parts, and auxiliary systems. Diagnose electrical faults, short circuits, grounding issues, and failures in control or signaling circuits. Use electrical test equipment such as multimeters, insulation testers, megger, clamp meters, oscilloscopes, and diagnostic software. Work with engineers to resolve complex electrical issues and implement corrective actions. Respond to breakdowns and on-track failures; perform rapid on-site diagnostic and repair work. Coordinate with operations and movement control to ensure safe working conditions during emergency calls

Requirements

Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics, or related field. 1-3 years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance (railway, heavy equipment, automotive, aerospace, marine, or industrial machinery preferred). Experience with locomotive or rolling stock systems is an added advantage. trong knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring diagrams, schematics, and control logic. Able to diagnose faults using electrical testing tools. Familiar with HV and LV systems (depending on the locomotive model). Understanding of electrical safety standards and lock-out/tag-out procedures. Work performed in rail depots, workshops, or field (trackside, stations, remote sites). Exposure to noise, electrical hazards, weather conditions, and heavy machinery. May require shift work, weekends, or on-call standby duties.
