The Environment Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting environmental management initiatives to ensure the plantation operations comply with national laws, international standards, and sustainability certifications (e.g., RSPO, MSPO).
Key Responsibilities
1. Environmental Compliance & Regulations
Ensure plantation operations comply with environmental laws, DOE (Department of Environment) requirements, and other relevant regulations.
Liaise with government agencies (DOE, DOSH, MPOB) on environmental inspections, audits, and licensing.
Prepare, update, and submit environmental reports as required by authorities.
2. Sustainability & Certification
Support compliance with RSPO, MSPO requirements.
Implement environmental management plans, waste management, and biodiversity protection measures.
Assist in audits and provide evidence of environmental compliance.
3. Waste & Pollution Control
Monitor and manage scheduled waste, domestic waste, effluent, and chemical storage/disposal in accordance with regulations.
Conduct regular checks on mill/estate effluent treatment systems, landfill, and hazardous waste handling.
4. Environmental Monitoring & Reporting
Collect and analyze data on water usage, effluent discharge, chemical application, GHG emissions, and waste generation.
Prepare monthly/quarterly environmental monitoring reports for management and certification bodies.
Maintain environmental records and documentation for audit purposes.
5. Training & Awareness
Conduct training for workers on environmental SOPs (e.g., chemical handling, waste segregation, emergency response).
6. Emergency Response & Risk Management
Develop and maintain environmental emergency response plans (e.g., chemical spill, fire, effluent overflow).
Lead environmental incident investigations and corrective/preventive actions.
