Job Description


Fermentation engineers (biochemical engineers) Fermentation engineers are required in developing fermentation processes by implementing chemical and biochemical principles on microorganisms (especially E. coli, red yeast R. toruloides and baker\xe2\x80\x99s yeast S. cerevisiae). Benchtop bioreactor (0.25-10L) skills are necessary; experiences in pilot-scale bioreactors (100-500L) are preferred. : The job is to bridge between laboratory research in Suntar Synthetic Biology and industrial applications. He or she is expected to work closely with the molecular biologists and analytical teams to develop and optimize bioprocess. The candidates are responsible for optimizing benchtop bioreactors process, analyzing fermentation broth and bioproducts and maintaining the equipment. The candidates will also be involved in the operation of pilot-scale bioreactors (100-500L) to validate the bioprocess in the future. Application conditions: 1. Location: Malaysia (Possible relocation for overseas work) 2. Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree and above; 3. Strong English reading and writing skills; 4. Assist the research group leader to guide graduate students/ lead the research team; 5. Strong sense of responsibility, positive attitude, Able to carry out research projects independently; 6. Meticulous and reliable work, Passionate about scientific research. Job Specific requirements: 1. Expertise in benchtop bioreactors (batch, fed-batch fermentation) 2. Experience in pilot-scale bioreactors (optional but preferred) 3. Experience with sample preparations for HPLC and GC analysis 4. Basic operation of HPLC and GC (optional but preferred) 5. Microbiology knowledge such as cell culture skills (optional but preferred) 6. Good communication and writing skills 7. Good team player 8. General lab management Key responsibility: 1. Conducting experiments on fermentations (batch and fed-batch fermentation). For example, conducting studies for determining the optimal conditions of cell growth and product formation, and preparing technical data and reports on experimental findings for reports and publications 2. Working closely with chemical analysts and biologists for robust bioprocess development and updating knowledge on scientific, industrial and technological advances in the related field of fermentation engineering. 3. Analytical analysis of fermentation products and materials with GCMS and HPLC. 4. Evaluating the bioprocess and use the findings to design and conduct follow-up experiments. 5. Designing or improving the biochemical fermentation processes for maximizing the production of high-value products (flavors, fragrances and nutraceuticals) and minimizing production costs. 6. Assisting with downstream team for integration of fermentation and product purification. The issues related to fermentation, filtration and solvent extraction etc. 7. Deliver clear and concise verbal (presentation) or written reports of each experiment conducted. Job Type: Full-time Salary: From RM3,000.00 per month Schedule:
