About Oyen Insurance Oyen is a fully integrated digital pet healthcare platform that pools insurance using smart underwriting and claims management. Oyen works with vet partners and their insurer carriers to offer personalised pet healthcare protection, wellness and benefits to pet owners. We are in the process of completing our Bank Negara Malaysia application to be a licensed insurance operator in the Sandbox program and are looking to expand our team. Our early investors include Iterative , Hustlefund , former and current executive leaders of silicon valley/ global tech companies such as Airbnb, Facebook and Rocket Internet (Zalora, Easytaxi). We are scaling very quickly to be one of the largest licensed digital pet healthcare insurance companies in Asia. About the Role As a Finance Lead, you will be a key player in spearheading crucial functions related to financial accounting, operations, and financial planning and analysis (FP&A). This position involves a broad range of responsibilities from operational finance management to strategic financial planning and analysis. You will work closely with the CEO and Founders to assist with our transition to participate in the Bank Negara Malaysia Fintech Sandbox, specifically in ensuring that we meet the respective financial reporting and compliance to the the Central Bank of Malaysia. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic individual capable of wearing multiple hats, eager to drive improvements and efficiencies in financial processes, and adept at managing both systems and people. Our finance operations are powered by Xero and an in-house insurance system, requiring the Finance Lead to be both technically proficient and adaptable to different financial environments. Duties and Responsibilities Financial Strategy Development Collaborate with management to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with organisational goals and objectives. Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support decision-making processes. Identify and assess financial risks, implementing appropriate controls and mitigation strategies. Financial System and Operations Management Act as the primary troubleshooter for finance system issues, collaborating closely with various stakeholders to ensure swift resolution. Provide day-to-day support to finance users, ensuring smooth operation of finance functions including accounting reporting, reconciliations, and management reporting. Lead the Finance team in monthly and quarterly closing of accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Oversee the reconciliation of premiums with insurers, while maintaining strong relationships with insurers and resolving discrepancies promptly. Monitoring and Regulatory Reporting: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including Profit and Loss, Cashflow, and Balance Sheet metrics, providing regular reports to management. Lead the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing insights to support strategic planning and decision-making. Evaluate the performance of monthly instalments, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement. Direct the finance team in comprehensive financial and regulatory reporting, ensuring compliance with IFRS17/MFRS standards. This includes close partnership with the Actuarial team to interpret IFRS17 requirements and analyse results. Process Optimisation and Automation Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance function, driving initiatives to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency. Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices in finance and accounting, implementing innovative solutions to optimise financial operations. Leadership and Talent Development Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Provide coaching and guidance to team members to enhance their financial acumen and leadership capabilities. Stakeholder Engagement Serve as a subject matter expert for other departments, providing financial expertise and guidance to support cross-functional initiatives. Work closely with external financial consultants in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements as well as external audit requirements. Innovation and Collaboration Actively participate in the fintech sandbox initiatives, leveraging opportunities to innovate and improve our financial systems and processes. Work closely with cross-functional teams to align financial strategies with the overall goals of the startup. Skills and Requirements Bachelor\'s degree in finance, accounting, or in a related field. Professional qualifications such as ACCA/ICAEW/CPA etc is an advantage Proven experience in financial management and operations, ideally within the insurance or fintech sectors. Have a strong interest in insurance and basic understanding in principles of insurance Strong technical proficiency with financial systems, particularly Xero and any bespoke insurance systems. Demonstrated ability in process optimisation, digital transformation, and financial reporting. Excellent analytical skills, with a strong focus on data visualisation and financial analysis. Effective leadership and people management abilities. Ability to work flexibly and dynamically in a fast-paced startup environment. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to engage with various stakeholders. Experience in Excel/Google sheet formulas is highly desirable Good knowledge of accounting standards and applicable tax codes Great attention to detail Enjoys analysing and solving problems Superb organisational and time-management skills Communications: Highly communicative, energetic, loves building relationships and rapport with others and in general a people-person Independent: Proactive and able to operate independently with minimal supervision Languages: Able to speak and write in both Bahasa Malaysia and English
