Introduction

We support leading companies by sourcing skilled professionals to meet their project and operational needs. For this role, we are recruiting on behalf of our client, a reputable oil and gas company operating in Malaysia.

The Firewatcher position plays a critical role in ensuring workplace safety during fabrication activities such as welding, grinding, and cutting. By maintaining vigilance and enforcing fire prevention practices, Firewatchers help safeguard both personnel and assets from fire hazards.

Job Responsibilities

Observe hot work activities (welding, grinding, cutting) to identify and mitigate fire hazards. Stand by with fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and other firefighting equipment. Prepare fire safety materials and ensure permits are in place before work begins. Maintain communication with supervisors, foremen, welders, and grinders during operations. Report for duty punctually and comply with safety regulations and site procedures. Ensure work areas are free from flammable or combustible materials. Immediately raise alerts and take action in the event of sparks, smoke, or fire incidents.

Requirements

Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience in industrial or construction safety roles. Familiarity with welding, grinding, and cutting operations in oil & gas or fabrication environments. Physically fit and alert, with the ability to remain on standby for extended periods. Strong awareness of safety procedures and hazard prevention. Good teamwork and communication skills.

Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Have)

Valid safety certifications (e.g., Firewatch, Hot Work Safety, OSHA, or equivalent). Previous experience in oil & gas projects or fabrication yards. Knowledge of emergency response protocols. Ability to operate fire extinguishers and handle other firefighting equipment confidently. Basic understanding of permit-to-work (PTW) systems.
