Job Overview:
The Flow Assurance Engineer applies their conceptual knowledge of Flow Assurance (Eng) and, with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward Flow Assurance (Eng) problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures and building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Flow Assurance Engineer understands critical business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.
Responsibilities:
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in projects and perform Pre-FEED/Conceptual Selection, FEED Studies, and detailed design engineering of analysis, modeling, simulations/calculations, and reporting on basic to complex flow assurance tasks
  • Apply knowledge and skills to complete varied assignments
  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed fluid characteristic analysis, system modeling, calculations, simulations, and results analyses including study reports
  • Prioritize and organize own work to meet project and deliverable schedules and deadlines
  • Focus on completing work within budgets
  • Communicate and explain information in straightforward engineering activities
  • Familiar with and follow McDermott Unifi Processes/Procedures regarding Flow Assurance engineering
  • Understand basic engineering & academic projects on - petroleum fluids and phase behavior/fluid dynamics/pressure behavior/thermodynamics/heat transfer
  • Understand single-phase and multiphase fluid flow characteristics in oil and gas production systems; and the flow patterns in the system (i.e., stratified flow, Intermittent flow, annular flow, slug flow, etc.)
  • Understand the major flow assurance issues in the production system, i.e., hydrate formation and blockage, etc.) and corresponding mitigation strategies
  • Use fluid PVT analysis tools, i.e., Multiflash and PVTsim for fluid characteristic analysis and create fluid files (fluid base or PVT tab files) for simulations
  • Perform validations on the received reservoir fluids information; and perform fluid characteristic analysis to generate detailed fluid data documents (i.e., fluid base or pvt tables)
  • Use steady-state software such as PIPESIM (and/or Maximus) and good knowledge of transient software such as OLGA (and/or LedaFlow)
  • Familiar with system configurations for oil and gas production systems (including flowlines, risers, export pipelines, XTs, manifold, jumper/spool, etc.), chemical injection systems, water injection systems, gas lift systems
  • Perform system modeling with flow assurance software (i.e., PIPESIM, OLGA, or PIPENET, etc.) using field layout information, system configuration, geophysical bathymetry profile, and environmental conditions; and perform simulations for different system operating conditions
  • Generate technical study/analysis report based on calculation/simulation results, and respond to peer review comments
  • Provide technical inputs to other related disciplines and parties; provide responses and solutions to interface requirements
  • Execute project closeout activities and communicate lessons learned as required
  • Identify potential scope changes and report deviations to the team Engineer lead
  • Assist the Flow Assurance lead with the Control changes and report deviations to the project management team
  • Apply all relevant procedures/codes, Client General Practices (GPs), and standards and applicable as per Project requirements
Reports to:
Project: Senior/Principal/FA Lead Engineer or Project Engineering Manager (if no FA Lead Engineer)
Functional: Local Flow Assurance Team Lead/Local Supervising Department Manager
Liaise With: All design/drafting disciplines, all Engineering disciplines, Construction Site/fabrication group, and Document Control.
Supervises: Associate /Trainee Flow Assurance Engineers
Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications and Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Master's Degree and above is Preferred)
  • 3-8 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing pre-FEED, FEED, and detail design on Flow Assurance
  • CFD experience a plus
  • Uphold the Company's Vision, Mission and Values Statement and Corporate Goals

  • Support McDermott's global Flow Assurance activities
  • Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
  • Work on multiple projects or tasks
  • The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
  • The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
  • The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications
  • Accredited engineering degree as may be required by specific regions
  • Hands-on experience with reservoir fluid characteristics analysis and tools:
  • Multiflash
  • PVTsim
  • Familiar with Flow Assurance issues and their mitigation strategies
  • Hands-on experience in oil and gas production systems (offshore/subsea and onshore) and onshore oil/gas transmission systems, and their modeling and simulations
  • Hands-on experience in Flow Assurance engineering software including fluid characteristic analysis software and flow assurance simulation software, single phase and multiphase; the following are the minimum:
  • PIPEsim
  • OLGA
  • PIPENET
  • Familiar with content and application of Flow Assurance-related standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
  • Experience in black oil, wet gas, and single-phase (Gas and oil export, WI, GL, and chemical injection) systems
  • Knowledge of many basic flow assurance analysis techniques and methods
