Functional Consultant (transport Management System)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled TMS Functional Consultant to lead the design, configuration, and deployment of our Transportation Management System. The successful candidate will work closely with logistics, procurement, and supply chain teams to streamline freight operations, reduce transportation costs, and enhance end-to-end shipment visibility. This role requires deep functional expertise in transportation processes and hands-on experience with leading TMS platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Elicit, analyze, and document business requirements from logistics, procurement, and carrier management teams. Design and configure TMS functionality including freight order management, tendering, carrier selection, load optimization, route planning, tracking & visibility, freight audit & payment, and KPI reporting. Map current ("as-is") and future ("to-be") transportation processes; identify automation and efficiency opportunities. Support integration between TMS and ERP (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, Oracle), WMS, and external carrier/3PL systems (EDI/API). Lead testing activities (unit, integration, UAT), resolve defects, and ensure solution quality. Develop functional specifications, process flows, user guides, and training materials. Provide post-go-live support, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with project managers, technical developers, and change management teams throughout the implementation lifecycle.
Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Information Systems, or a related field. 3+ years of experience as a Functional Consultant on TMS implementations (e.g., SAP Transportation Management, Oracle TMS, Blue Yonder, MercuryGate, BluJay, etc.). Strong knowledge of transportation operations: domestic & international freight (FTL/LTL, parcel, intermodal), carrier contracts, freight costing, compliance (e.g., IFTA, customs), and shipment lifecycle. Experience integrating TMS with ERP, WMS, and carrier systems via EDI or APIs. Familiarity with freight audit & payment (FAP), transportation analytics, and sustainability/routing optimization is a plus. Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in complex, multi-site, or global environments. Willing to travel to the client site
