1. The main function and responsibility of the gas cutting expert is to perform all gas cutting functions and activities at the factory. 2. The gas cutting expert must always ensure that the gas cutting takes place in a safe environment, which means that he should warn all employees in advance of the fact that gas cutting will take place in or at a specific area or site at the factory to afford employees the opportunity to evacuate or leave the area for the duration of the gas cutting and also to be in a position for employees and/or other workers to remove dangerous or flammable goods or equipment from the specific area where gas cutting will take place. 3. As gas cutting can only be done when oxygen and acetylene are used together, it automatically means that the gas cutting expert will have to be in possession of oxygen and acetylene, which are normally provided in cylinders (gas bottles). As the use and specifically the transport and movement of the bottles are in themselves very dangerous, the gas cutting expert must always follow safety procedures in this regard to prevent injury, loss of life, and damage to property. There are specific safety rules and regulations applicable, especially when the oxygen and acetylene bottles are transported from one place to another, and the gas cutting expert should adhere to these safety measures at all times. 4. The safety rules and regulations are applicable not only in respect of the transportation of oxygen and acetylene bottles but also in respect of storage. As the local firefighting unit plays an important role in respect of the implementation of the safety rules and regulations, it is always advisable to obtain the input and advice of the firefighting unit in respect of the storage facility of the gas cylinders/bottles, including the oxygen and acetylene bottles. The gas cutting expert should always ensure that no matter where the oxygen and acetylene bottles are at a specific time, there should always be sufficient ventilation in order to prevent a concentration of gas (oxygen/acetylene) from forming in an enclosed area, which can very easily result in an explosion. 5. The gas cutting expert should inspect his gas cutting machine (torch) as well as all gas cutting equipment, including the oxygen and acetylene bottles, and oxygen and acetylene hoses, thoroughly to make sure that the equipment is in perfect working order. 6. With regard to the oxygen and acetylene bottles, he should ensure that the valves are operating correctly, that no leakages occur, and that the hoses are in good operational condition. The oxygen hose should be 18 mm in diameter and be able to withstand 20 kg of pressure; the acetylene hose should be 16 mm in diameter and be able to withstand 5 kg of pressure. 7. The gas cutting expert should take care that the hoses (oxygen and acetylene) are used safely when he is busy with gas cutting operations. This means that the hoses may not be bent or placed close to any warm objects, pipes, or flammable goods. The relevant hoses should also be replaced regularly to ensure that they are always flexible and easy to use. 8. The gas cutting expert should perform his gas cutting duties in a professional, neat, and efficient manner. In view of the fact that the gas cutting expert works in a factory that consists of mainly heavy-duty steel equipment that operates on a full-time basis, he must be able to perform gas cutting and repair or maintenance work under extreme pressure situations, as any breakdown or problem should be repaired or solved as soon as possible with the utmost efficiency. 9. It is important that the gas cutting expert have a sound knowledge of the factory and production line as a whole in view of the fact that he will be responsible for rendering services and maintenance as well as repair work on all equipment and machines where and when necessary. Minimum Requirement: 1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in the mechanical industry is necessary for this post. 2. Proficient in both written and spoken Mandarin will be an added advantage
