About the Institute (UNU-IIGH)
UNU- International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is one of 14 research and training Institutes that comprise the think tanks in the UNU system. UNU-IIGH is the designated UN think tank on global health, serving as a policy translation hub for UN member states, agencies and programmes. It was established by a statute adopted by the Council of the United Nations University in December 2005. The Institute generates policy-relevant analysis by applying a gender lens to inform the development, implementation and evaluation of health programmes. UNU-IIGH also supports the capacity development of local decision-makers and stakeholders to engage effectively with global health challenges within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The current work of the Institute includes conducting research, promoting policy change and facilitating policy implementation around a number of global health topics, including gender and health; maternal, sexual and reproductive health; decolonisation and global health governance; health systems policy; implementation research in health; digital health; communicable disease control; the commercial determinants of child health; and health equity. As a neutral convener, and leveraging its position within the UN, UNU-IIGH works with a network of academic, policy and civil society experts to serve as a platform for critical thinking and the exchange of knowledge and tools for policy influence and consensus-building.
The goal of UNU-IIGH is to advance evidence-based policymaking on crucial issues related to sustainable development and global health. The 2019-2023 Strategy for UNU-IIGH is implemented through three pillars of work: 1. Translating evidence into policy; 2. Generating policy-relevant analysis related to gender and health; and 3. Strengthening capacity for local decision-making. UNU-IIGH is looking for full time consultants who demonstrate that they can contribute to this programme of work with a focus on 2. Generating policy-relevant analyses related to gender and health. Furthermore, successful candidates will be given the opportunity and are expected to lead in specific areas of work.
Responsibilities
UNU-IIGH is looking for two consultants to support and contribute to the Institute\xe2\x80\x99s focus on gender and intersectional equity in health - reviewing, consolidating and translating evidence on effective approaches to promote gender equity in health policies and programmes. Priority areas of focus and expertise for the Institute\xe2\x80\x99s work on gender and equity in are (i) gender equality in primary health care (PHC) with a particular focus on health workforce and immunization, (ii) gender equality in SRHR policies and measures, (iii) governance and engagement in digital tech for health; and (iv) financing, gender equality and global health. The consultants will work under the leadership of the Chief Gender and Health in collaboration with the Director, relevant institute staff, and fellows.
