Job Description

He / She is responsible in data capture, analysis, visualization, advanced spatial analysis, and compliance technologies, focused on GIS and geospatial solutions. This position requires extensive knowledge of various GIS tools for mapping, agro-management inputs, maximising yields, profitability and labour productivity in accordance to environmentally friendly and sustainable manners. He / She will report to the Group Head of Agronomy.


We are seeking for an GIS and Geospatial Technician to base in our Sook, Keningau, Sabah plantation.

Job Responsibilities:

• Conduct on premise geographical information system (GIS) analysing / digitizing work for oil palm mapping data, using expertise in Esri ArcGIS Desktop / QGIS.
• Analysing spatial data through the use of mapping software
• Discovering patterns and trends through spatial mapping of data
• Designing digital maps with geographic data and other data sources
• Producing maps showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data
• Mapping of canals, drainage and boundary areas in the plantation
• Assisting the agronomy department in new oil palm replanting procedures
• Ability to fly drones will be an advantage

Requirements:

• Candidate must possess at least a Degree in Science Computer / Geoinformatics / Geomatic or equivalent disciplines
• Minimum 3 years of experience in GIS / mapping is a requirement
• Experience in the geospatial / GIS field and web-based application development of oil palm plantation is an advantage
• Experience in field research and knowledge in oil palm and sustainable agriculture will be an added advantage.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and able to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and IT skills.
• Knowledge and field implementation of GPS/GIS or precision agriculture is an advantage.
• Willing to learn, self-motivated, lots of initiative and have high degree of discipline.
• Willing to work and live in plantation environment.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
