Job Description


Project and Role Summary: To work as part of a team to set up and manage the Seremban Diabetes (SeDia) Cohort. This SeDia study is a public-private partnership between Ministry of Health Malaysia and International Medical University, IMU. The SeDia cohort will study the determinants of complications in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and examine the roles of genetic, physiological, lifestyle and psycho-social factors in the development of T2DM and its complications. This is a long-term study that involves patients with diabetes and their family members registered with the Diabetes Registry of Klinik Kesihatan Seremban. The main purpose of the study is to identify the risk factors among family members for diabetes as we know diabetes can affect people differently depending on their age, gender, race, lifestyle factors and biological factors, including genetics. Findings from this study will help identify new interventions to prevent diabetes more effectively among Malaysians. The successful candidate will provide assistance and support to the IMU Institute for Research, Development and Innovation (IRDI), working closely with investigators on duties that include, but are not limited to, the coordination of sample collection, biospecimens processing, biobanking and study documentation and data management. The candidate will work under the general supervision of the SeDia Project Manager and IMU IRDI Research Laboratory and Support Services Manager with focus on study sample management and maintenance of the SeDia BioBank. Key Responsibilities: 1. Non-clinical research duties as assigned by the study Principal Investigator, including the following:

  • Set up, process, and maintain the day-to-day technical tasks of the SeDia BioBank
  • Evaluation, processing, storage, and distribution of bio-specimens for research
  • Monitor and recognize problems or deviations in BioBank processes and procedures and notify appropriate personnel
  • Maintain electronic database systems for data entry, specimen inventory and clinical data
  • Perform daily quality control and equipment monitoring (centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, balance, etc.)
  • Communicate effectively with the clinical and laboratory teams to ensure accurate reporting, documentation and efficient logistics and tracking of sample collection and processing
  • Act as primary liaison contact for the non-clinical team for designated project communications, correspondence, and associated documentation
2. General research activities:
  • Assist with the tracking and management SeDia biospecimen, queries and sample management work flow
  • Assist the study team with the preparation, handling, distribution, filing, and archiving of biospecimen documentation and reports according to the scope of work and standard operating procedures
  • Assist with preparation, handling and distribution of the non-clinical research study equipment and supplies and maintenance of tracking information
  • Coordination of clinical samples following good laboratory practice (GLP) and good clinical practice (GCP)
  • Management of subject data; data collection from relevant sources (patient records, registries, case reports, etc.), data entry into study database, data preparation, cleaning and analysis
  • Liaise with commercial and academic partners to ensure appropriate records of sample processing, storage and shipment of samples
  • Assist with IMU undergraduate student supervision of project activities and processes (when necessary)
  • Implement and uphold all Human Subject Protection procedures (consent, confidentiality, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate data on all record keeping forms
3. To maintain GLP compliance, laboratory record keeping (methods, sample processing details, results) and necessary documentation for the project 4. Assist with and participate in the production and dissemination of research outputs:
  • To prepare and effectively communicate methodologies, data and laboratory results to other members of the group at project meetings
  • To contribute research ideas and to actively participate in the planning of the research activity
  • Take part in the preparation and writing of scientific reports and peer-reviewed publications for the scientific community
5. To keep up-to-date with recent literature and advances in the field Qualifications and Personal Attributes: Essential:-
  • BSc in relevant field (Biomedical, Biotechnology or Health Sciences related field)
  • Relevant experience of working within a research laboratory
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Fluent in Bahasa Melayu and English
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Willingness to work as an integral and cooperative member of a multi-disciplinary, multinational research team
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office)
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to analyse, organise and prioritise work under pressure while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary
  • Show initiative and work independently where appropriate
Desirable:-
  • Experience of drafting/writing scientific reports
  • Research experience in the use of quantitative research methods, including data collection and statistical analysis
Job Type: Full-time Salary: RM1,800.00 - RM2,000.00 per month Benefits:
