Position Description SummaryPosition: National Athletics Head Coach - ThrowsLocation: East / West Malaysia, Kuala LumpurReporting to: Coaching and Development Committee of MAF, Working Committee of Athletics Program MSNApplications Close: 5 pm 30th June 2024Key Responsibilities:Coach and Athlete Development:

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of training programs specifically tailored to the technical demands of Javelin, Hammer, Shot and Discus events for the national athletics program.
  • Provide expert professional development (PD) for coaches under your supervision, instructing and guiding their athletes in technical, physical, psychological, and recovery strategies.
  • Assist coaches in conducting video analysis and performance evaluations in cooperation with the sports science services support staff to identify limitations and gaps in performance for improvement and tracking athlete progress.
  • Ensure oversight collaboration with strength and conditioning coaches, sports medicine professionals, and other support staff to optimise athlete development and minimise injury risk.
  • Supervise and assist coaches and support staff, delegating responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes camaraderie, mutual respect, and collaboration.
Technical Coaching oversight:
  • Lead direct coaching sessions, clinics, and workshops to refine athletes\' skills and proficiency in throwing technique, technical modelling, mental skill preparation, and unique speed power rhythm mechanics.
  • Assist coaches in designing and implementing drill progressions, plyometric exercises, and strength training protocols to enhance athletes\' speed, power, and explosiveness.
  • Provide individualised feedback and corrective cues during training sessions and competitions to maximise performance potential.
Recruitment and Talent Identification:
  • Scout and recruit talented athletes with potential success in throwing events.
  • Establish relationships with State Sports Councils, sports schools and university coaches, state associations and club programs to identify prospects and build a network pathway of future athletes.
  • Co-operate with sports science services to evaluate prospective athletes based on athletic ability, technical proficiency, and character qualities.
Competition Preparation:
  • Work with event coaches to develop competition strategies and race plans tailored to each athlete\'s strengths, weaknesses, and competitive goals.
  • Coordinate pre-meet warm-ups, event entries, and equipment preparation to ensure athletes are primed for peak performance.
  • Oversee coaches and athletes providing support during competitions, offering tactical advice, motivation, and encouragement.
  • Analyse competition results and performance data to assess team and individual strengths and weaknesses.
Program Leadership and Administration:
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for coaches and athletes, promoting professionalism, sportsmanship, discipline, and ethical conduct.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to align training methodologies, competition schedules, and team goals.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including budget management where required, travel coordination, and compliance with organisational policies and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of athlete eligibility, participation, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant rules, regulations, and policies governing athletics programs at the local, state, national and international levels.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise in throwing events at a State, National, and/or International elite level.
  • Strong leadership skills, including inspiring, motivating, and empowering athletes and staff.
  • Proven track record of developing athletes to succeed at national or international competitions.
  • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in mechanics, techniques, and fundamentals of all throwing events.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire athletes and coaches of diverse backgrounds.
  • Certification from relevant coaching organisations such as WA Level 2, 3, IAAF Level 4, 5 or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in sports coaching, sports science, exercise science, physical education, Strength and conditioning, or a related field would be desirable.
