Executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group's Industrial Division is partnered with an MNC that produces oleochemicals. Our esteemed client focuses on production of oleochemicals for various application such as industrial, food ingredients, personal care, biofuel, and agriculture.

Job summary
The successful applicant will be leading the execution of applications research projects by drafting proposals, selecting appropriate methodologies & techniques, putting together an effective team, managing budgets and ensuring completion of the projects, and presenting findings. The Head of Applied Research is to identify potential ideas to pitch to the director of research, or they may submit a proposal to be approved. The candidate will be reporting to the Technical Director.

Key job responsibilities include:

• Coordinate with management in determining research priorities and developing a research roadmap.
• Ensure research programs within Applied Research are transparent, accountable, scientifically sound and research deliverables meet quality standards and business requirements.
• Supervise and participate in the integration, design and development of new projects.
• Stay abreast with the latest developments in research tools and techniques.
• Serve as a liaison with internal and external operations teams.
• Work toward team goals and participate actively and supportively in team decisions.
• Mentor and provide best practices with more junior members of the research team.
• Supervise team members on daily basis to complete research projects within deadlines.
• Develop and maintain relationships with research leaders and organizations in the field.
• Maintain & follow up-to-date knowledge of state & federal regulations of the chosen fields.
• Present research findings to management in an understandable manner.
• Conduct stakeholder presentations, workshops, and data discussions to ensure project success.
• Liaison with external research partners including media, consulting firms, and academia

• A Ph.D. or Masters in Chemistry, Surface Chemistry, Material Science or Colloidal Science is preferred.
• Post-graduate Degree in a science discipline, equivalent qualifications, or evidence of equivalent experience.
• Minimum 15 years of working experience as a researcher and/or team leader in an academic or industrial laboratory.
• Experience in oleochemical research will be an added advantage.
• Proven track record running and overseeing applied research.
• Effective leadership, project management, and communication skills.
• Strong people management skills, including developing and motivating direct reports, colleagues and research partners.
• Proven skills in writing for and speaking to a range of audiences to ensure impact, and in using different channels and media.
• Deep understanding of various qualitative and quantitative research techniques to support high quality research.
• Advanced knowledge of a range of research and evaluation methods and their application.
• Demonstrated sound work ethic and attention to detail.
