POSITION SUMMARY:

Heads the legal department and is responsible for the legal affairs of the entire corporation. This role includes providing legal counsel to the board of directors, chief executive officer and the management teams of the various entities within the Group.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing Legal Strategy: Leading the development of strategies to protect the company\'s legal interests and promote compliance. This includes identifying potential legal issues and devising plans to address them.
  • Providing & overseeing the delivery of Legal Services: Advising on a range of issues such as contract negotiations, and product disclosures and industrial relations. This also encompasses drafting and negotiating various legal documents like contracts, powers of attorney, indemnities, and handling arbitration or litigation cases as needed.
  • Maintaining Corporate Interactions: Liaising with relevant regulatory bodies and engaging with the community to ensure compliance and foster positive relationships.
  • Leading Cross-Functional Legal Projects: Managing projects that span different legal areas, business functions, geographies, and jurisdictions. This requires a broad understanding of various legal and business contexts.
  • Anticipating and Planning for Legal Risks: Proactively identifying potential legal risks to the organization and developing strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Developing and Providing Legal Training: Offering training sessions on legal issues, processes, and policies to employees across the organization, thereby fostering a culture of compliance and legal awareness.
  • Managing Special Projects and Other Duties: Taking on additional projects and responsibilities as needed, which could vary widely depending on the organization\'s needs.
  • Managing and Developing the Legal Team: Overseeing the legal team, including planning for their technical and leadership development, to ensure the team\'s effectiveness and growth.
Experience/Education
  • Degree/tertiary/professional qualification in Law.
  • 10-15 years of experience, preferably with corporate experience. Experience in insurance or financial services will be an added advantage.
  • Must be able to speak and write English and Bahasa Malaysia fluently.
Other Requirements:
  • Experience advising senior management of middle-sized to large organizations
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to explain legal concepts and translate those to non-lawyers to create practical processes, guidance and training
  • Able to build relationships and communicate with diverse groups of people
  • Experience in managing a legal team and working with senior management
