Training Program Design & Development
Develop comprehensive training curricula (basic ? advanced) covering HVAC theory, system design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, safety, and best practices.
Create or update training materials: manuals, presentations, hands-on practical modules, e-learning content, videos, assessments.
Ensure training content is aligned with local & international codes, standards, energy efficiency regulations, safety laws, and latest HVAC technology.
Training Delivery
Conduct classroom sessions, hands-on workshops, practical demonstrations, and field / site-based trainings.
Use various instructional techniques to engage learners: lectures, simulations, role-plays, group discussions, and field exercises.
Deliver training both internally (company technicians, maintenance teams) and externally (contractors, partners, client service staff).
Assessment & Evaluation
Develop and administer assessments: quizzes/exams, performance of practical tasks, demonstrations.
Monitor student/trainee progress; provide constructive feedback; identify gaps and remedial training if needed.
Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs via feedback, performance outcomes, error rates, and adherence to quality standards.
Mentorship & Coaching
Mentor trainees on technical skills, troubleshooting, understanding of system behaviours, and safety procedures.
Provide ongoing coaching for staff to continuously improve HVAC operational performance.
Technical Expertise & Content Updating
Keep current with advances in HVAC design, new refrigerants, smart controls/BMS/BAS, IoT/automation, energy efficiency, and green building practices.
Incorporate new technologies, products, tools, and regulatory changes into training materials.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Reporting
Liaise with management, HR / L&D departments, operations, service/maintenance teams to identify training needs.
Coordinate with vendors/manufacturers for product-specific training.
Report to leadership on training metrics: attendance, pass rates, skill improvement, and impact on operational performance.
Safety, Compliance & Standardization
Ensure safety standards, codes, and environmental regulations are part of training.
Maintain training facilities and equipment; ensure a safe environment for practical / field training.
Standardize training procedures and documentation for consistency and compliance.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC, or related technical discipline; or equivalent technical qualification + hands-on experience.
Extensive practical experience in HVAC: installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and service. (Typically, 8+ years)
Strong understanding of HVAC fundamentals: thermal loads, psychometrics, fluid flow, refrigerants, controls, ventilation, etc.
Experience in training, teaching, or mentoring roles; ability to convey complex technical content clearly.
Good communication and presentation skills; able to engage diverse learners.
Familiarity with relevant local Malaysian and international codes & standards (e.g., MS standards, ASHRAE, etc.).
Proficiency in creating training materials, using presentation tools, and assessment tools.
Preferred / Additional:
Certifications: professional HVAC credentials, green/sustainable building/energy management / instructional design.
Experience with advanced or specialized systems: VRV / VRF, chillers, cooling towers, BAS / BMS, smart HVAC, IoT.
Experience with e-learning, blended learning, and virtual training platforms.
Strong interpersonal skills; patience and ability to coach; adaptability in in-field / workshop teaching environments.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Number of training sessions delivered versus plan.
Trainee performance metrics: pass rates, practical skills competency, error rates in field work.
Reduction in service or maintenance escalations after training.
Feedback scores from trainees and operational / maintenance teams.
Implementation of new technologies or practices as a result of training.
Training content update frequency to reflect changing technologies/standards.
Working Conditions
Mix of classroom work, workshop/lab/field / site-based training (sometimes in challenging environments).
Travel to project/site locations may be required.
After-hours or weekend work may be needed for certain training schedules or urgent refresher training.
Wearing PPE and compliance with safety regulations during site/workshop sessions.
