About the OrganisationHumans of Kuala Lumpur (HOKL) is an online platform primarily targeted for millennials, featuring real, intimate stories about humanity through storytelling, photography and videography as the medium to advocate social awareness and initiate social changes.Founded in 2012, HOKL started off as a one-man show as Mushamir Mustafa went around Kuala Lumpur and talked to strangers he met off the streets. Armed with a camera and a recording app, he believed that there are many untold stories on ground. Since then, HOKL has published hundreds of stories, of which some have gone viral.Today, HOKL consists of a team of volunteer storytellers who gather together on photo hunts and collect real stories from everyday Malaysians.HOKL also streamlines our social projects in support of the United Nations\xe2\x80\x99 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and champions SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reducing Inequalities) and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).About the InternshipWe are looking for interns to join us to create a movement of change through storytelling.This is an internship programme for budding journalists, writers, future photojournalists and video-journalists, content creators and media enthusiasts to work with the HOKL Leadership team - where we work as a content creation cum news agency cum social advocacy platform.Interns are required to attend an on-boarding session as well as weekly workshops as part of their learning to have a more comprehensive understanding of the mission and the work that the organisation is doing. Interns are encouraged to bring their own passions, interests and experiences to share with the team and fellow volunteers.Monthly allowances for an intern is RM300 per month payable at the end of each month. Interns are not eligible for EPF or SOCSO contributions for employees.The internship is open to all pre-university students, undergraduates and fresh graduates in any field. There is no age limit. Internships undertaken as part of university course/ credit hours will receive necessary documentation as required by the university.When can I apply?We have 4 internship cycles, where a maximum of 2 interns will be accepted each quarter. Interview results will be notified 1 week after the interview.Job RequirementsRole of an InternInterns will first undergo an onboarding session as well as attend weekly workshops with relevant team members from HOKL. Each team member shall represent their own area of expertise (Photography, Videography, Writing & Storytelling, Marketing & Business Development, PR & Social Media).Interns will be mainly involved in content creation and assist the Storytellers where necessary. This includes:Transcribe, edit and write photostories. Interns are required to submit a minimum of 15 stories each month (including old and current interviews).Accompany the HOKL team for photohunts, interviews, video interviews and business meetings.Learn, and help create and edit video stories.Assist administrative tasks such as uploading stories on Facebook and Instagram and update HOKL\xe2\x80\x99s websiteAssist in organising events such as exhibitions, workshops/ talks, story parties and other external events.Interns are required to document their internship journey and upon completion, will receive a certificate.Capstone ProjectFor the final month of the internship, the Intern shall engage in a project of their own, with a minimum of 10 photostories to be submitted. The project\xe2\x80\x99s theme and the topic is to be proposed by the intern and supervised by the HOKL team. The Capstone Project will be presented to the team and will have the opportunity to be published on HOKL\xe2\x80\x99s social media.Working hoursAn intern is expected to work a maximum of 40 hours, as defined by labour law.Weekdays: Any 3 working days, 8 hours each, with the option of working from home (eg.: Wednesday to Friday). Team meetings in the evening will be considered as part of the 8 hours. Total: 24 hours.Weekends: Saturday or Sunday, minimum of 4 hours, maximum of 8 hours. This includes going to events, photohunts, and attending team meetings. If there are no events on a particular Saturday or Sunday, it can be replaced on a weekday, or combined with Saturday.
