Tenby International School Setia EcoHill in Semenyih commenced operation in September 2016, offering an international, student-centred programme for students from Early Years up to the Secondary levels, focusing on the development of responsible learners who are both independent and creative thinkers. Both the Primary and Secondary schools are located on a 14-acre purpose-built campus, with a capacity for 1800 students, which is equipped with modern teaching and learning facilities.

Candidates are invited to apply for the position Key Stage 1 Class Teacher with Additional Literacy Coordinator role for our school located in Semenyih, Selangor (near Kuala Lumpur).

Under the direction of the Head Teacher, the literacy coordinator will carry out the professional duties of a class teacher, having responsibility for an assigned class and coordinate and promote literacy throughout the school, Nursery to Y6. The candidate is expected to teach in accordance with the ethos, values, organisation and policies of the school as a fully committed member of the teaching team and primary leadership team as detailed in the specific duties below.
Coordinator

  • To exemplify good practice in literacy teaching in your own class
  • To communicate enthusiasm for literacy to both children, staff and parents
  • To lead workshops for parents
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues
  • To monitor and support other teachers in becoming excellent literacy practitioners
  • To assist in leading training for teachers and teaching assistants to develop their expertise in delivering effective literacy learning and literacy interventions
  • To support class teachers with planning, teaching strategies and assessment
  • To lead whole school development of literacy, including phonics, spelling, guided reading and writing
  • To gain a thorough knowledge of whole school data for literacy
  • To report to others on analysis of whole school literacy data
  • To act on school data trends by offering guidance and support when necessary
  • To ensure that you keep up to date with developments in teaching and learning

Class Teacher
  • To plan work for a class in accordance with the school\xe2\x80\x99s policies, to ensure that the children experience a broad, balanced, relevant and stimulating curriculum.
  • To develop learning through the implementation of the IPC.
  • To ensure a close match between the learning experience offered, and the individual needs of the children in the class, so as to give each child an opportunity to achieve to the maximum of his/her capability.
  • To make appropriate educational provision for children with SEND, children who are gifted and talented, and those learning with EAL, with support from the SENCo and EAL teacher.

  • To provide children with opportunities to manage their own learning and become independent learners.
  • To create a secure, happy and stimulating classroom environment, maintaining the highest standards of organisation, and behaviour.
  • To foster each child\xe2\x80\x99s self-image and esteem and establish relationships which are based on mutual respect.
  • To set children high standards in the content and presentation of their work by the quality of displays of work
  • To arrange for resources, equipment and materials to be available in such a way that they are properly cared for, easily accessible and will encourage the children to become more responsible for their own learning.
  • To plan opportunities to develop the social, moral, spiritual and cultural aspects of pupils\xe2\x80\x99 learning.
  • To maintain a regular system of monitoring, assessment, record-keeping and reporting of children\xe2\x80\x99s progress.
  • To ensure effective use of support staff within the classroom, including parent helpers.
  • Report appropriately to parents/ carers on the needs and progress of their children.
  • Encourage the involvement of parents/ carers in the education of their children and respond promptly to queries and concerns.

  • To participate in staff meetings as required.
  • To be part of a whole school team, working collaboratively and supportively with others,
  • To support the Headteacher in promoting the ethos of the school and the implementation of the school action plan.
  • To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons who you are responsible for, or come in contact with.
  • To ensure that school policies are reflected in daily practice.
  • To take up the opportunity for continuous professional development through self-directed reading, courses and in-service training
  • To actively involve in the school\xe2\x80\x99s performance management process in accordance with the school policy and national guidance.
  • To promote equality as an integral part of the role and to treat everyone with fairness and dignity.
