Key Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Management
Serve as the person-in-charge for assigned laboratories.
Prepare, update, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each piece of equipment.
Monitor laboratory usage and ensure all users follow safety guidelines and fill in the logbook.
Conduct and maintain 6S practices within the laboratory.
Perform safety equipment checks (e.g., eyewash stations) biweekly.
Maintain cleanliness and readiness of all CME laboratories for teaching and research purposes.
Ensure emergency exits are accessible and provide immediate emergency response when necessary.
2. Teaching Lab Operations
Prepare necessary apparatus, chemicals, and materials according to class timetables.
Perform equipment checks before each lab session.
Handle waste disposal after classes.
Support lecturers in conducting lab experiments and guide students when required.
Update lab manuals, teaching slides, and course syllabi as needed.
3. Research Lab Operations
Support ongoing research projects by maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment on Level 5 (Research Lab).
Assist researchers in ensuring safety compliance.
Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on research equipment.
4. Waste Management
Handle scheduled waste according to regulations and institutional guidelines.
Maintain updated consignment notes and ensure compliance with environmental acts.
Conduct scheduled waste training for relevant staff and students.
Ensure waste storage areas meet safety and legal standards.
5. Procurement and Inventory
Manage procurement of laboratory materials, equipment, and consumables.
Liaise with suppliers for quotations, proposals, and delivery arrangements.
Register all purchased chemicals and submit Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to the Lab Centre.
Prepare and submit purchase requests, payment requests, and asset registration forms.
Record and file all purchasing documentation.
Coordinate outsourcing and maintenance service requests when required.
6. Safety and Compliance
Brief students and staff on laboratory safety procedures and emergency protocols.
Update and maintain the laboratory safety checklist twice a year.
Check expiry dates of fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and first aid kits.
Conduct HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) briefings for FYP and postgraduate students.
Lead incident response training and ensure accident/incident reports are completed.
7. EAC and Accreditation Support
Maintain laboratories in compliance with EAC (Engineering Accreditation Council) requirements.
Participate in tasks related to EAC documentation and audits.
8. Lab Visits and Outreach
Prepare laboratories for external visits (e.g., marketing activities, audits, or panel inspections).
Demonstrate lab equipment and introduce facilities to visitors.
Plan interactive or promotional lab activities during school visits to showcase the CME program.
