Position Overview

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting in managing day-to-day microbiological laboratory operation respective laboratory standards and to conduct other quality related activities such in the absence of a person in charge.

Responsibilities

Responsible for adhering to food safety and quality system requirement by committing to meet all pertinent regulatory and customer requirements. To demonstrate strong commitment to the laboratory policy and procedure. Handles samples and performing analyses according to standard test/operating procedures. Perform tests according to standard test procedure and good laboratory practices. To complete all required analysis and results in an accurate and timely manner. Prepare and maintain shelf life of chemical and reagents used. Maintaining and calibrating the equipment. Report deficiencies or malfunction to the Food Technologist. Responsible for ensuring adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in all daily laboratory operations. Responsible for all the housekeeping and cleanliness of the apparatus used in the test. Strict inventory control of chemicals, media, reagents and glassware. Proper use of personnel protective equipment all the time when handling tests in the laboratory. To perform any other assigned duties from time to time.

Requirements/Experiences

Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Microbiology, Food Technology/Science, Biotechnology or other related field. Minimum 1 years of experience in a food microbiology lab or meat industry preferred. Experience in ISO 17025 accredited labs is an advantage. Candidate must be willing to work on a shift basis.
