:Heriot-Watt University Malaysia is seeking to recruit enthusiastic Psychology Lab Technician. Successful candidates will be expected to support the daily operations of the teaching and research laboratory; supporting the training and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the use of equipment and techniques and to build research over time. Successful candidates will also be expected to develop strong links to colleagues at the campuses in Edinburgh and Dubai to support high quality learning and teaching, to contribute to the continued development of the programmes offered to students, and to develop research in association with colleagues overseas.Postholders will be expected to have a broad knowledge of a range of topics within Psychology, and an interest in research activities. From time to time the postholder may have the opportunity to support the work of other departments including Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science.The role will be based at the University\'s campus in Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia. Programmes are delivered in English and so fluency in English is essential. An induction programme will be delivered to all new staff on Heriot-Watt\'s standards and values, and the practical elements of their job roles.Key Duties and Responsibilities * Support teaching and assessment duties on academic programmes. Support colleagues in Psychology for laboratory practical classes, workshops and other activities to support the delivery of HWUM\'s aims.

  • Prepare and set up Psychology laboratory research methods analysis classes and provide assistance during classes and tutorials.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments and ensure smooth laboratory operations.
  • Mentor and support the supervision of students, including PhD students, providing effective, well documented and timely guidance.
  • Assist undergraduate and postgraduate students in final year projects as well as staff in ongoing research activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in Malaysia, at other campuses, and with external networks both for the exchange of information, to share learning, and to form relationships for future collaboration.
  • Liaise with the Campus Services to oversee and ensure the safe operations of laboratory activities as defined by university safety policies and the relevant statutory regulations.
  • Manage and maintain the database for Psychology laboratory access system.
  • Manage the Psychology laboratory booking system; maintain inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) and participate in staff development activities.

  • A general understanding and background in Psychology
  • An undergraduate degree in Psychology or a closely related discipline
Desirable:
  • A postgraduate degree in Psychology or closely related discipline
Some background in Mathematics, Computer Science or other numerate disciplinesExperienceEssential:
  • Competence using SPSS or equivalent analytical software packages
Desirable:
  • Experience with PsychoPy, SurveyLab and Testable
  • Some programming skills (e.g., /R-statistics/Python/Matlab/C/Java), preferably with experience in implementing psychological experiments.
  • Experience of working in laboratory and/or educational environments
Competencies, Skills & KnowledgeEssential:
  • Fluent (verbal and written) in English
  • Good communication, interpersonal and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive and resourceful
Desirable:
  • Flexible and innovative with the ability to adapt to continually changing situations.
