Purpose: The LSD Legal Counsel, Shell Malaysia will report to the LSD Managing Counsel Malaysia & Indonesia and Head of Legal Malaysia. The successful candidate is responsible for provision of a broad suite of legal services to the Downstream business(es) in country and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Accountabilities:

• To provide and/or act as integrator in the provision of timely, professional and fit-for-purpose legal advice and support to certain DS business(es)
• Participate in external negotiations with all applicable counterparties including contractors/vendors and drafting agreements to ensure that Shell\xe2\x80\x99s legal and commercial interests are well-represented, and projects are delivered to meet performance targets
• Proactively identify commercial and legal risks and rewards, ensuring appropriate alternative commercial and legal structures and strategies are considered, and documents are appropriately drafted to reflect commercial decisions, at all times consistent with professional standards, legal obligations, the Shell General Business Principles and the Shell Control Framework
• Ensure that legal considerations, including mitigation of legal risks identified, are taken into account in operations, planning activities, contracting, new business/project development, including relations with relevant third parties
• To devise, manage and provide legal advice on Downstream related claims for and against the companies\xe2\x80\x99 businesses and functions prior to and during commencement of litigation to ensure, a) speedy resolution of all disputes; b) minimizing exposure to civil or criminal liabilities; c) minimizing legal costs; and d) the interests of the companies are protected always
• Keep MC appraised of material legal and commercial activities/risks/issues/developments
• To ensure optimal use of internal and external legal resources to ensure provision of professional, timely, cost effective and commercial legal advice and support, balancing both risk and value
• Monitor relevant legal developments and communicate these to the relevant businesses and functions
• Committed to and focused on continuous improvement within the overall legal team

Requirements

• This is a contractual role for 1 year
• Law degree and professional legal qualification with minimum five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience.
• Good understanding of legal issues, demonstrated learner mindset and capability to expand knowledge in relevant areas of law and regulatory
• Excellent legal and strategic judgment, coupled with strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills
• Promotes a continuous improvement mindset and challenges self and others to identify and implement opportunities for improvement
• Ability to develop and sustain relationships and trust with business and functions at all levels and in a range of cultures
