Job Description

• Driver\'s License: A valid commercial driver\'s license (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements for operating a lorry trailer.
• Experience and Training: Previous experience as a lorry driver is often required. Some companies may provide additional training for specific trailer types or specialized cargo.
• Driving Record: A clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents. Some employers may require a background check and driving record review.
• Knowledge of Traffic Laws: Comprehensive understanding of traffic laws, road regulations, and safety protocols specific to lorry trailer operations.
• Physical Fitness: Good physical health and stamina to handle the demands of long-distance driving, loading and unloading cargo, and performing routine vehicle inspections.
• Navigation Skills: Proficiency in using navigation systems, maps, and GPS devices to plan routes and ensure timely and efficient deliveries.
• Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with dispatchers, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Time Management: Excellent time management skills to meet delivery schedules, manage rest breaks, and maintain accurate records of working hours.
• Mechanical Knowledge: Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance to perform routine checks, identify potential issues, and ensure the proper functioning of the lorry and trailer.
• Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to safety procedures, including securing loads, adhering to weight limits, and performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections.

Responsibilities

• Vehicle Operation: Safely operate a lorry and trailer combination, including maneuvering, accelerating, and braking according to traffic and road conditions.
• Cargo Handling: Load and unload cargo onto the trailer while adhering to proper handling techniques and ensuring securement to prevent damage during transit.
• Route Planning: Plan the most efficient and safe routes to reach destinations, considering factors such as traffic conditions, road closures, and delivery schedules.
• Delivery and Collection: Ensure timely and accurate delivery and collection of goods as per the assigned schedule and customer requirements.
• Compliance and Documentation: Adhere to legal and company-specific regulations, including maintaining accurate records of deliveries, fuel usage, mileage, and other required documentation.
• Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of the lorry and trailer, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and fluid levels. Report any issues or maintenance requirements promptly.
• Communication and Coordination: Maintain regular communication with dispatchers, customers, and colleagues to provide updates on delivery status, potential delays, and other relevant information.
• Customer Service: Interact professionally with customers and clients, ensuring a positive experience during deliveries and addressing any concerns or issues.
• Safety and Emergency Preparedness: Adhere to safety protocols, including using seat belts, maintaining appropriate speed limits, and responding effectively in emergency situations.
• Adapting to Regulations: Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to driving, vehicle operations, and cargo transportation.
