Maintenance TechnicianLife Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew, we craft and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.Repairs and maintains metalworking machines and equipment used in the manufacture of medical devices. Typical machines include CNC and conventional mills and lathes, presses, stamping equipment, gundrills, screw machines, and other specialized equipment. Required to use blueprints, schematic drawings, sketches, and other specifications. Utilizes hand tools and special test equipment.What will you be doing?Performs fixing by starting equipment and evaluating mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical units and controls to determine the source of malfunctions. Uses blueprints, machine specifications, and schematic drawings to settle repair procedures. Removes and replaces defective units, controls, or components. Tests and repairs components such as PC boards, power supplies, and control stations with oscilloscopes, VOMs, logic probes, etc. Adjusts critical electrical, thermal, and timing devices to specifications. Starts repairing or new equipment to verify readiness for operation.Performs calibration, preventive and remedial maintenance schedules and records work for GMP records. Performs maintenance to meet safety (OSHA) requirements. Fixing needed operating supplies and parts and advising the department supervisor. Attends production team meetings in assigned areas and uses the SAP Plant Maintenance system for all maintenance-related activities.Required to work on shift and align with HSE, sustainability and energy policies, HSE regulations, and HSE rules. Prevents safety and health injuries, environmental pollution, and energy wastage. Reports all HSE incidents and provides feedback for HSE improvements. Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.What will you need to be successful?Education requirements include a diploma or technical certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other related qualifications. There are no specific licenses or certifications required for this role. Candidates should have shown significant maintenance experience in a similar role, specifically in machine maintenance involving electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as metal machining experience. Proficiency with general PC skills is also required.The physical demands for this position include standing or walking, and sitting for 1/3 to 2/3 of the time, and talking or hearing for more than 2/3 of the time. The job requires using hands for handling or feeling and reaching with hands and arms for more than 2/3 of the time. Additionally, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is needed up to 2/3 of the time, and tasting or smelling up to 1/3 of the time. The role also requires close, distance, colour, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
