POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY

The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing the architectural and engineering design aspects of terminal redesign, refurbishment, and construction projects at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). This role involves leading a team of designers, architects, and engineers to develop innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing solutions that enhance the passenger experience, optimize operational efficiency, and align with the strategic objectives of T1 and the company.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

Quality control and assurance

• Setting design standards, reviewing design documents, and ensuring designs meet safety, regulatory, and functional requirements of the airport

Compliance and risk management

• Ensuring the enhancements adhere to relevant building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.

Identifying and mitigating potential risks throughout the design process.

• Manages the visual aesthetics and functionality of the spaces

Ensuring user comfort, flow, and efficiency.

• Creates a welcoming and comfortable environment for passengers, considering factors like branding, lighting, furniture, and material selection.

Focuses on creating a holistic and positive passenger experience throughout the airport journey.

• Considers branding, accessibility and cultural sensitivity in design decisions

Key Challenges

3. Influencing stakeholders to adopt new changes.

Skills

• A solid understanding of how people go through a change and the change process
• Experience and knowledge of change communication and behavioral change principles, methodologies and tools
• Change management certification or designation desired
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent active listening skills
• Ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences
• Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships
• Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal
• Problem solving and root cause identification skills
• Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization
• Acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges
• Familiarity with project management approaches, tools and phases of the project lifecycle

Relevant Industries

External

• Degree with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience

Education

External

• Degree in any technical or business discipline (Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field)
