Electric motor is an integral part of our machine performance for bringing together the programme and engineering teams to deliver the product vision through balancing the machine specification, delivering, and managing the motor to meet machine specificationAbout the roleWe are looking for a Motors Engineering Intern who will be responsible for management and delivery of motor technical study of Dyson Floorcare cleaner head tool motor with guidance and supervision from Motor Engineer in GDC (Global Development Centre). This will require regular interaction with the wider team to ensure robust specification and subsequent on time delivery. The correct candidate will have a strong working knowledge of electric motor, mechanical assembly apprehension, testing design and methodology, and hold broad understanding of theoretical as well as practical engineering application. This role includes working with the cross functional team and presenting to senior management to help bring value and guide development of the motor. Some of your tasks could include:Develop an understanding of brushed and brushless DC (BLDC) motor 1D system modelling requirement study for real on-going with aim to reduce testing duration and provide technical assessment judgment with high confidence through system modellingGenerate BLDC motor 1D model, test to verify model and target setGenerate Project Charter by defining project aim, scope, time, and support/resource requiredCreate project time plan with detailed breakdown activities and manage each task progress in timely mannerCarry out research on ball bearing design construction, gather information on bearing life calculation equation, identify factors/limits of ball bearing reliability and construct a failure tree diagram that list all potential ball bearing failure modesCarry out motor dyno test, tear down activities and arrange temperature rise testing to determine cooling flow required to maintain motor bearing and winding within safety target limitPerform free body diagram calculation on motor bearing loads based on in assembly (cleaner head) usage conditionCommunicate with Test team, Motor supplier to deliver accelerated life test jig including execution plan for accelerated life testing at supplier siteReports to Senior Motors Engineer on project deliverable status and technical risk discussion on daily basisPresent study\'s conclusion to stakeholder in Project Wrap Up Presentation and highlight lesson learnt/recommendation for future improvementsOur internship programme connects academic theory with practical experience.
