is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all operational activities in
Sabah
, with a primary focus on electrical engineering projects involving power stations and substations, including transformer and switchgear systems. This role ensures that all projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and quality standards -- delivered on time and within budget. The Operations Manager also provides strong leadership to the operations team, optimizes processes, manages resources effectively (manpower, materials, and equipment), and maintains proactive communication with clients, consultants, and relevant authorities.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Operational Planning
Plan, schedule, and monitor electrical engineering projects (installation, maintenance, commissioning) in Sabah.(Local Sabah residents only)
Ensure projects adhere to specifications, safety codes, standards, budget, and timelines.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, logistics, and quality control teams.
Resource Management
Manage manpower (engineers, technicians, contractors, site workers) including hiring, training, performance, and discipline.
Oversee procurement and inventory of materials, spare parts, and equipment.
Manage fleet and site equipment usage, maintenance, and compliance with safety / regulatory requirements.
Budgeting & Cost Control
Develop operational budgets, forecasts for projects and maintenance.
Monitor expenses and implement cost control measures to maintain profitability.
Get approval for project expenditure, manage contracts, and negotiate with suppliers/subcontractors for best rates.
Quality, Health, Safety & Compliance (QHSE)
Enforce adherence to electrical and workplace safety standards (e.g. standards from SIRIM, DOSH, etc.).
Ensure all operations comply with local laws, regulations, permits, licensing.
Conduct safety audits, incident investigations, risk assessments.
Client / Stakeholder Management
Maintain strong communication with clients, vendors, subcontractors, local authorities.
Resolve technical / operational issues, ensure customer satisfaction.
Represent the company in site meetings, regulatory inspections.
Process Improvement & Reporting
Implement operational best practices, continuous improvement initiatives for productivity, quality, and resource utilization.
Establish KPIs and operational metrics, monitor performance.
Prepare and submit regular reports to senior management on project status, operations, safety, resource usage, and financial performance.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, or a
closely
related field
.
Minimum 5-10 years of experience in electrical engineering operations / project management, with at least 3 years in a leadership/management role.
Strong technical understanding of electrical systems, installations, safety codes, and regulatory requirements in Malaysia (especially Sabah).
Solid knowledge of project scheduling, cost control, budgeting.
Proficiency in relevant software and systems (SQL or operations management software).
Excellent leadership, communication, problem?solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel frequently to job / project sites in Sabah.
