In the beginning of 2020, Panthera incorporated an office in Malaysia - Panthera Wild Cat Conservation Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Panthera Malaysia). Panthera\'s Project Tekai started in 2023 and is focused on the monitoring and protection of the Malayan tiger ( Panthera tigris jacksoni ), as well as all other wild cat species in the Al-Sultan Abdullah Royal Tiger Reserve, also known as the Tekai Core Area in Pahang. The project\'s main objectives are to stabilize and recover the population of tigers and other wild cats in the landscape following the Panthera\'s Regional Development Strategy for South and Southeast Asia in Malaysia. As a Problem Analyst for Panthera\'s Project Tekai, s/he shall work in a team to carry out the analytical work required to fulfill the project\'s research and protection activities with the aim to study and conserve the wild cat population in the Tekai Core Area. S/he will do so by adhering to the code of conduct and standard operating procedures of Panthera Malaysia. As an employee of Panthera Malaysia, s/he will uphold the organisation\'s values and operating principles and maintain a professional work etiquette at all times. S/he may be required to assist with other projects of Panthera in other field sites from time to time for transfer of knowledge, skills and experience, at the discretion of the Malaysia Country Manager as and when needed. A Problem Analyst will be required to work closely with the team\'s Wildlife Analyst, Patrol Specialist and Project Coordinator to ensure that all analytical processes and products are communicated to inform the Country Manager to guide overall conservation strategy as well as the field teams to execute protection activities effectively. S/he will be working under guidance of Lead of Counter Wildlife Crime Program Analytics, and shall be equipped with the right skills, knowledge and experience to manage all data pertaining to problems and threats to Tekai\'s wild cat population as well as in running in-depth analysis on the specific problems using the available data and amalgate information to guide conservation strategies. S/he will report to the Project Coordinator of Project Tekai/Country Manager of Panthera Malaysia. Specific Responsibilities Include Conduct in-depth threat assessments and lead problem analysis projects to produce reports and recommendations to inform conservation strategies for tigers and other wild cat population in Kenyir as well as across the peninsula. Work closely under the guidance of Lead of Program Analytics to conduct threat/problem monitoring and assessment, as well as evaluation of interventions employed to remedy the problems. Work closely with other analysts from relevant partner organisations on specific problem analysis projects set by Project Coordinator/Country Manager. Produce reports, tutorials and guides to aid the dissemination of best practices in wildlife protection techniques. This may also include scientific publications. Produce quarterly briefing reports on problem assessment and recommendations for following quarter to the Project Coordinator/Country Manager. These reports should also be communicated to relevant partner agencies and organizations in a timely manner. Assist Project Coordinator/Country Manager with development of proposals, research design, and reports to donors, partner agencies and other stakeholders in the project. Prepare and conduct trainings and workshops on topics relevant to your scope of work. Manage all patrol and threat data using the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) database. Amalgate information gathered from various sources including but not limited to field data collection, interviews with community members, media, etc. to be used for analysis and communicate findings with team members and stakeholders, as and where applies. Work closely with the Patrol Specialist/Patrol Lead and other members of the team that collect information from local communities and patrols to meticulously curate the information gathered. Assist relevant law enforcement agencies with conducting post-arrest interviews to develop better understanding of poaching, trafficking, or related crime to wildlife problems associated with the landscape and/or wild cats of Malaysia. Work with the Wildlife Analyst to run cross analyses to understand the effects of problems and threats on Kenyir\'s key wildlife species, especially the wild cat population, as well as to assess the effectiveness of the interventions employed. Perform regular patrol data analysis to monitor Vigilance levels and incursion distribution and rates across the Core Area in order to inform the Patrol Specialist/Patrol Lead for effective patrol planning. Ensure clear and open communication of analytical products to Project Manager/Country Manager as well as to team members such as the Patrol Lead, Wildlife Analyst and patrol team. Manage use of Poachercam units and any other conservation technological equipment to monitor key access points into the Core Area. Assist in the preparation of maps and equipment for patrols, briefing and debriefing sessions. Participate and lead in briefing, strategy planning, and debriefing sessions as and when required. Lead in the preparation of post operation reports, threat assessments, and related documents. Essential Duties The essential job functions of a Problem Analyst of Project Tekai are as follows: Establish and maintain good relations with partners and stakeholders of the project. Ensure professional conduct within the team as well as with parners and stakeholders of the project, including government representatives. Ensure that all assigned activities are consistent with the schedule and all outputs are delivered on time and at the desired quality. Keep abreast with current research and developments in biodiversity monitoring and wildlife crime science. This may require attending various meetings, workshops, conferences and training programmes. Be familiar and comply with the policies and guidelines set out in the Panthera Employee\'s Handbook ensuring that the code of conduct & ethics and \'Patrol Standard Operating Procedures\' are followed at all times. Be familiar and comply with Panthera\'s programmatic vision, objectives and plans, and intellectual property rights.
