At BookXcess, we believe in making books accessible to all - and that starts with bold storytelling, not just on our shelves, but in how we communicate with the world. We're looking for a dynamic and creative Public Relations Manager to be the voice of our brand and help shape how people see, hear, and feel about BookXcess.
If you're passionate about crafting compelling narratives, building strong media relationships, and making waves across traditional and digital platforms, you might be the one we're looking for.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and lead PR strategies that bring the BookXcess brand, mission, and quirky spirit to life across all channels.
Build, plan and execute an integrated PR calendar - including budgets, timelines, key campaigns, and launches.
Create and manage media materials such as press releases, media kits, speeches, briefing docs, and story angles that excite.
Work closely with media, coordinate interviews, organize press tours and media events, handle inquiries, and build strong long-term media relations.
Monitor media coverage, industry trends, and competitor news to identify opportunities and risks.
Manage influencer/KOL collaborations that are aligned with our brand values and campaign goals.
Propose and lead brand storytelling initiatives.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Design, and Store teams to bring PR ideas to life on the ground and online.
Lead awards submissions and manage external opportunities like speaking engagements for our spokespeople.
Draft and review external communications, including speeches, interviews, and announcements.
Track KPIs and analytics for all PR efforts and provide regular reports and recommendations for improvement.
Stay on top of trends and PR best practices in the publishing, retail, and lifestyle spaces.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in PR, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business or related field.
5-10 years of hands-on experience in PR or Corporate Comms (agency or in-house). Experience in lifestyle, retail, or creative industries is a plus.
Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia, excellent in both spoken and written communication.
A strong understanding of the Malaysian media landscape, both mainstream and niche.
Creative flair, with a keen eye for story angles and how to make noise (in a good way!).
Able to juggle multiple deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
Resourceful, detail-oriented, and always one step ahead.
Familiarity with social media and how it intersects with PR is a bonus.
