To lead the Quality Department in ensuring all raw materials, in-process, and finished products meet company and regulatory standards.
Responsible for maintaining and improving the Quality Management System (QMS), supporting product development validation, and driving continuous improvement in product consistency, customer satisfaction, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality System & Compliance
Establish, implement, and maintain the company's
QMS
in line with
ISO 9001
,
ISO 14001
standards.
Ensure all
SOPs, Work Instructions, and QC inspection forms
are properly maintained and updated.
Lead internal audits and support external/customer audits.
Maintain and ensure product compliance with
local and international standards
(DOE, DOSH, GHS, VOC, etc.).
2. Quality Control Operations
Oversee
incoming raw material inspections
-- resin, pigments, solvents, tinplate, propellants, valves, etc.
Supervise
in-process QC
for mixing, filling, and packing stages (viscosity, gloss, hiding power, adhesion, spray pattern, leak test, weight check).
Approve or reject
finished goods (FG)
based on COA and customer specifications.
Ensure all laboratory instruments are calibrated, validated, and properly maintained.
Review and sign off QC inspection reports and COAs before shipment release.
3. Customer Quality & Complaint Handling
Lead
8D / Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
for internal and customer complaints.
Coordinate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) with Production, Maintenance, and R&D.
Prepare
Monthly Quality Reports
highlighting defects, trends, and improvement actions.
Visit customers for quality-related issues when necessary.
4. Continuous Improvement
Lead
Kaizen projects
focused on scrap reduction, yield improvement, and process stability.
Introduce SPC (Statistical Process Control) and other data-driven methods.
Train QA/QC team on problem-solving, visual inspection, and testing methods.
Collaborate with R&D to validate new formulations, color matches, and raw materials.
5. People Management & Leadership
Manage QA/QC team scheduling, training, and competency development.
Set department KPIs (e.g. rejection rate, customer complaint closure rate, inspection accuracy).
Conduct performance reviews and build team technical capability.
Foster a strong culture of discipline, accountability, and safety in the lab and plant.
Requirements :
1. Academic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, or related science field.
2. Work Experience
Minimum
5-8 years
experience in QA/QC roles within chemical, coating, aerosol, or paint manufacturing industries.
Strong experience in
color matching
,
viscosity control
, and
chemical raw material analysis
(especially solvents, resins, pigments).
3. Technical Knowledge
Deep understanding of:
Aerosol paint formulation
Propellant systems (LPG/DME)
Solvent-based coating systems
Wet chemistry testing (density, pH, viscosity, fineness)
Spray testing, adhesion, drying time, gloss, hardness
Raw material specifications & quality standards
Familiarity with
MSDS
, TDS, and chemical safety requirements.
Able to lead
root cause analysis
using: 8D,Fishbone,5 Why's, PDCA & FMEA (optional but good)
4. Quality System Knowledge
Strong knowledge of:
ISO 9001:2015
ISO 14001:2015
Calibration systems
Internal & external audits
Experience handling
customer complaints

corrective actions

preventive actions (CAPA)

5. Leadership & Management Skills
Ability to lead a QAQC team (inspectors, chemists, technicians).
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Able to train QC inspectors and chemists on testing and standards.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Skilled in preparing:
QC reports
Non-conformance reports (NCR)
CPAR/8D reports
Batch release reports
QA audit summaries
Able to maintain BOM accuracy and ensure formulation compliance.
7. Soft Skills
Good communication (Bahasa Malaysia & English).
Strong teamwork between R&D, production, and management.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
8. Additional Requirements
Not color blind (VERY IMPORTANT for paint industry).
Knowledge of ESH and chemical handling regulations.
Willing to travel between factory and customer sites if required.
Good attention to detail and high integrity in quality decisions.
