Job Responsibilities:

1) Newborn Care

? Conduct newborn assessment: Vital signs, skin colour, reflexes, feeding,

elimination.

? Monitor for danger signs: jaundice, poor feeding, fever, breathing difficulties.

? Provide cord, eye, and skin care.

? Support feeding methods: breastfeeding assistance, formula/bottle feeding

guidance.

? Promote safe sleep practices in baby cots.

? Document weight, growth, head circumference, feeding, urine and stool

output.

? Work collaboratively with chief nurse, assistant chief nurse, doctors,

caregivers, and nursery staff.

? Supervise caregivers/babysitters in daily duties.

? Mentor and support junior nurses or new staff.

? Ensure correct usage, recording, and storage of oxygen tanks, emergency

kits, formula milk, breast milk storage.

? Maintain confidentiality of mothers' and babies' medical records.

? Display professionalism, compassion, and respect for family privacy at all

times.

2) Infection Control & Hygiene

? Adhere to infection prevention protocols: hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation

when indicated.

? Ensure sterilisation of bottles, feeding equipment, and nursery tools.

? Maintain cleanliness of nursery, and clinical/treatment areas.

? Supervise assistants to ensure no cross-contamination.

3) Documentation & Reporting

? Maintain accurate nursing reports for baby manually and digitally

? Complete Check in and check out documentation.

? Report incidents or abnormalities immediately to Chief/Assistant Chief Nurse.

4) Medication & Treatment

? Administer medications to mothers and babies (oral, topical, IM, - according

to KKM guidelines).

? Prepare and administer injections when required.

? Observe, document, and escalate any adverse drug reactions.

? Maintain accurate medication charts and treatment records as per the centre

policies.

5) Parent Education & Support

? Educate mothers on:

o Newborn care (bathing, swaddling, burping, feeding and etc)

o Postpartum warning signs

o Safe sleep practices

? Provide emotional support, reassurance, and counselling during postpartum

adjustment.

? Respect and support cultural/traditional confinement practices, while ensuring

safety and medical standards.

6) Emergency Preparedness

? Act as first responder in maternal or newborn emergencies.

? Perform CPR, neonatal resuscitation, and first aid per KKM standard.

? Escalate and coordinate with doctors and refer to hospitals when necessary.

? Ensure emergency equipment (oxygen, suction, resuscitation kit) is available

and functional at all times.

During night shifts: provide basic backup support for mothers (check on wound

dressing, assist with breastfeeding, or respond to urgent needs if mum support staff

are unavailable)

7) Postpartum Mother Care ( Back up to support only )

? Monitor mother's vital signs (BP, temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen

saturation).

? Assess postpartum recovery: uterine involution, lochia, perineal/episiotomy

wound healing, caesarean incision site.

? Provide wound care, perineal hygiene, and pain management.

? Support breastfeeding: latching, positioning, managing engorgement/mastitis.

? Educate mothers on hygiene, ambulation, nutrition, emotional health.

? Identify early warning signs of complications (postpartum haemorrhage,

infection, postpartum depression) and escalate promptly.

Requirements / Criteria:

-Diploma/Degree in Nursing (preferably Paediatric, Neonatal, or Midwifery

exposure).

-Valid Nursing Board Registration (Malaysia Nursing Board).

-Minimum 2 years' experience in paediatrics, NICU, maternity ward or Confinement

centre.

-Strong knowledge of newborn care, infant feeding, hygiene, and infection control.

-Patient, gentle, and detail-oriented with high alertness.

-Ability to work rotating shifts, especially night duty.

-Basic computer literacy for health record updates.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: RM2,000.00 - RM4,000.00 per month
