THE POSITION You will support Research activities within the R&D Department. You will be responsible for supporting a broad range of research and development activities as well as coordinating with other departments such as Engineering and Production. You will primarily be responsible for supporting our Research Scientists by preparing, implementing and collecting data for experiments with Black Soldier Flies (Hermetia illucens). Please note that this is not a laboratory position. Research Assistants are expected to work on experiments in our production facility, the environment is hot and smelly. Prior experience in livestock husbandry, aquaculture or agriculture preferred. RESPONSIBILITIES You will be responsible for:
Assisting in the implementation and data collection of industrial experiments on the factory floor.
Supporting R&D Research Scientists in their daily duties.
Supporting general factory data collection and monitoring.
Keeping research spaces clean and organized.
Coordinating with other departments as needed.
Any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to you by the management from time to time either within or out of your current scope of employment must perform accordingly
KEY ACTIVITIES
Mixing feed for larvae growth experiments
Collecting and evaluating raw materials samples
Dosing larval feed
Cleaning and preparing experimental tools and equipment
Assisting with the implementation of industrial experiments, including:
Daily monitoring
Coordinating with production staff
Cleaning tools equipment/workspaces
Collecting data on experiments, including
Setting up sensors
Manual data collection where needed
Observing behaviour
Recording data from large numbers of experimental trays/cages
Entering data into spreadsheets and statistical programs
REQUIREMENTS & PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
A Bachelor\'s degree in a Life Science discipline. Candidates with degrees or experience in Nutrition, Entomology, Aquaculture, Livestock Husbandry, Animal Nutrition, Agriculture are preferred.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Prior experience with scientific research from studies or work experience.
Strong computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations.
Able to lift 20kg.
Comfortable working in outdoor/semi-outdoor environments.
Not squeamish about live insects or strong smells.
Pays attention to detail: very careful when recording information.
Able to follow complex instructions.
Strong work ethic - holds self to high quality standard.
A team-player - helps others even if not asked to.
Curious and innovative - comes up with new ideas and solutions
