OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To support countries to take sustained, systematic and effective action to reduce common risk factors for noncommunicable diseases and conditions (including injuries), address health risks caused by environmental factors, and support WHO stakeholders and countries to address the social and commercial determinants of health, in particular gender and inequity.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES


  • Collect and analyze data on health trends. This includes using data to identify health problems, track progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Support advocacy. It is to raise awareness of importance of healthier population and promote evidence-based policies and interventions through effective communication strategies.
  • Provide technical assistance to national and local governments on public health issues. This includes analyzing root causes of the problem, developing and interventions based on global and regional guidance and national context.
  • Contribute to the policy development. It includes facilitating the development of policies, guidelines, and frameworks to address priority health issues, ensuring alignment with global health standards and best practices.
  • Build sub-national and community-level initiatives. This includes building relationships with community leaders and stakeholders, and mobilizing resources to address health problems.
  • Foster partnerships. It includes collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international partners, to promote multi-sectoral approaches to public health challenges.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree or equivalent in public health, epidemiology, health management, or a related field from a recognized institution. Desirable: Advanced university degree (Master\'s level or equivalent) in public health, epidemiology, health management, or a related field from a recognized institution.

Experience

Essential: A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in public health at the national and international level, including experience in program management, health policy development, and implementation of public health interventions. Desirable: Experience in UN/international organization and experience in policy development, NCD prevention, social determinant, environmental health and/or healthy ageing at international and national levels.

  • Technical support skills: It includes sound knowledge and understanding of global health priorities, public health principles, and practices, as well as familiarity with WHO guidelines and frameworks. Proficiency in applying evidence-based approaches to norms and standards
  • Project management skills: It includes the ability to develop and execute project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resources, with sound understanding of political and technical elements.
  • Data analysis skills: Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret health data, identify trends, and draw evidence-based conclusions to inform decision-making processes
  • Oral and written communication skills. It includes the ability to prepare clear and concise reports, deliver presentations, and effectively communicate complex public health concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Interpersonal and teamwork skills. This includes the ability to work collaboratively and establish effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, and maintain a high standard of personal conduct;
  • Problem-solving skills. This includes the ability to identify and analyze problems, develop and implement solutions, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. It also includes thinking skills to understanding and engaging with inter-related systems and create opportunities for collaboration among health and other sectors
  • Leadership skills. This includes the ability to motivate and inspire others, set a vision, and achieve goals.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 64,121, (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
