The general duties of a Safety and Health Officer (SHO) will be
to ensure compliance and to promote a healthy and safe conduct of work
. SHO is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing company's employee safety and health at work. The main duty is to ensure that the company is complying adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines. Regulatory responsibilities of an SHO are specifically prescribed in the Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Officer) Regulations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Head of Unit for Safety and Health Unit.
2. Oversee the daily operation of the unit including to monitor the performance of unit on matters relating to safety and health at the workplace at all times.
3. In-charge of advising employer regarding safety and health implementation and controls.
4. Support the development of OHS policies and program and to initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives.
5. Acts as the Secretary of Safety and Health Committee of the company.
6. Responsible for safety and health training / briefing for all employees including new joiners.
7. Responsible for the maintaining of emergency response team (ERT) members and First Aid Team (FAT) members with regular team members updates and equip with updated knowledge on First Aids for KL HQ and Batu Caves Warehouse (BCW).
8. In-charge of record keeping safety procurement and proposal of safety installation.
9. In-charge of coordinating safety training for security guards and employees and cooperation with relevant authority such JBPM.
10. In-charge of workplace inspection, fire equipment inspection of mechanical or machinery equipment such as lift, gondola and reach truck/forklift inspection.
11. Responsible to attend to any emergency situations on ad-hoc basis within company's premises after getting report from the security on-duty or from the Management and acting as point-of-contact representing the company in liaising with the authority.
12. Responsible for Accident and Near-Miss Accident investigation on a timely manner basis, accident analysis report, and maintaining records for accident statistics.
13. Record and investigate any Accident or Near-Miss Accident with regard to health and safety within company premises to determine the root causes and for preventive measures to be taken to prevent any recurrence in future.
14. In charge of necessary safety and health reports to JBPM, DOSH and other relevant authorities.
15. Perform inventory of safety equipment and other company asset as and when required for audit purpose for KL HQ and BCW.
16. Advise and instruct on various safety and health related topics (noise levels, lightings for all relevant areas like offices check for over/under/adequate illuminations as required by the law/regulations/best practices, use of machinery etc.) for KL HQ and BCW.
17. Conduct risk assessment (HIRARC) with recommendation to the top management for each risk determined and enforce preventative measures with regard to health and safety within company premise for KL HQ and BCW.
18. Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation as and when required.
19. Inspection towards company premises and the work of staff/personnel to identify issues or non-conformity/non-compliance towards safety procedure (e.g. not using protective equipment).
20. Oversee the security team daily operations and to coordinate with HR Manager with regard to the issues of security operation, building and staff security matter for KL HQ and BCW.
21. Oversee and coordinating contractors, installations, maintenance, cleaning contractor and disposal of substances etc. for KL HQ and BCW.
22. Stop or prevent any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy and to prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to the top management.
23. Maintaining and upkeeping a clean and safe working environment for all staff and clients.
24. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as being instructed by the top management from time to time.
25. Adhering to instruction from superior to attend for any other task as and when required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor degree of Safety and Health/OSHA with at least 3-5 years of relevant working experience.
Certified Safety and Health Officer by NIOSH.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Fit to work and proactive in Safety & Health activities.
