The Construction Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations at construction sites. This role involves monitoring operations, conducting safety training, and promoting a culture of safety among all employees and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal safety regulations and guidelines. Conduct regular inspections and audits of construction sites to identify potential hazards.
Training & Education: Develop and implement safety training programs for all employees, including orientation for new hires and ongoing education for existing staff.
Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents and near misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and safety analyses to identify potential hazards associated with construction activities and recommend mitigation strategies.
Safety Meetings: Organize and lead regular safety meetings to discuss safety policies, procedures, and best practices with the construction team.
Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures, ensuring that all employees are familiar with them.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation. Prepare and submit safety reports to management as required.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of safety and ensure that safety measures are integrated into all phases of the construction project.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum
5 years of experience
in construction safety or a related field. Knowledge of construction processes and safety regulations is essential.
Certifications: OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent;
Green Book
, additional safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST) are a plus.
Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements: Ability to conduct site inspections and walk through various construction environments, including heights and confined spaces.
Working Conditions:
This position may require working in various weather conditions and on active construction sites. Safety gear will be provided and must be worn at all times.
