Job Description

The Environment, Safety & Health Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational safety, health, and environmental regulations. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies, procedures, and programs to create a safe workplace. The incumbent will work closely with management, employees, and regulatory bodies to minimize workplace hazards and promote a culture of safety.

Safety Policy and Compliance:

Ensure compliance with regulations such as Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022, DOSH regulation and other relevant safety laws by developing, implementing and maintaining safety & health policies, procedures and activities. Keep up to date with changes in safety regulations and industry best practices.

Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification:

Conduct regular risk assessments and identify potential hazards in the workplace. Develop risk mitigation plans and preventive measures. Evaluate job safety analysis (JSA) and coordinate the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC).

Incident Investigation and Reporting:

Investigate workplace accidents, near misses, and safety violations. Prepare detailed reports and root cause analyses for accidents and incidents. Recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:

Develop and maintain emergency response plans (ERP) and procedures. Coordinate and conduct fire drills, evacuation exercises, and first aid training. Maintain first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment.

Safety Training and Awareness

Organize and conduct safety training programs for employees and contractors. Educate workers on safety practices, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage. Promote safety awareness campaigns and toolbox talks.

Workplace Safety Inspections and Audits:

Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify unsafe practices or conditions. Monitor the effectiveness of safety measures and recommend improvements. Ensure proper maintenance and functioning of safety equipment and machinery.

Health and Hygiene Monitoring:

Monitor workplace hygiene and environmental factors such as air quality, noise levels, and chemical exposure. Implement control measures to minimize health risks (e.g., ventilation systems, noise barriers).

Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain records of safety audits, training attendance, incident reports, and safety performance metrics. Prepare safety reports and present them to management for review and improvement planning.
